2013 Topps Series 2 Baseball Cards

2013 Topps Series 2 Baseball continues with "The Chase," an overlying theme that connects to both the game and the thrill of collecting. As with past years, the release offers plenty of continuity from Series 1, as well a handful of new wrinkles.

The 2013 Topps Series 2 base set adds another 330 cards to the main set's checklist. Continuing from where Series 1 left off, the full flagship set expands to 660 cards. The expansive list of parallels includes Emerald Foil (1:6 packs), Gold (#/2013), Desert Camo Foil (#/99), Black (#/62), Pink (#/50), Platinum (1/1), and Printing Plates. Framed Silk Collection mini cards are a partial parallel of 100 cards, each numbered to 50. Black, Printing Plates and Silk Collection are are exclusive to hobby and jumbo packs.

2013 Topps Series 2 Baseball has several basic insert sets. 1972 Topps Mini cards continue with another 50 cards, bringing to total set up to 100 cards. Chasing History is a 50-card set that carries over from Series 1. It has both current and past players, all of whom have gotten their names in the record books. Another returning insert is the die-cut Cut to the Chase (25 cards). Making Their Mark (25 cards) depicts players notching their first home run or win. Great defense gets some attention with Chase It Down, a 15-card set the highlights great photography. World Baseball Classic Stars showcases 15 players who participated in the preseason tournament. Only all-time greats make the cut in The Elite, a 20-card hobby-exclusive set. The Elite Gold parallels are numbered to 99. All basic inserts except for WBC Stars have a limited number of autographed versions, all of which have extremely low print runs. Most also have limited relic and autographed relic versions.

Manufactured relics return, falling one per hobby case and one per jumbo box. MVP Award Winners (ten cards) have commemorative MVP trophies embedded in them. Similarly, 15 Silver Sluggers have embedded mini Silver Slugger trophies. Proven Mettle Coin cards honor current and past stars with a commemorative coin. They come in three versions: Copper (#/99), Wrought Iron (#/50), and Steel (#/10).

Although 2013 Topps Series 2 Baseball is a low-end product, it has a handful of extremely high-end components, although they're tough pulls. Own the Name has a checklist of more than 500 cards, all are one-of-ones. Each card has a letter patch from a game-used jersey. Ted Williams has a special game-used relic card called The Greatest Chase. Numbered to 50, it commemorates his .400 season. A total of 15 redemption cards called The Chase award collectors with a full piece of game-used memorabilia.

Returning from Series 1 is the Ultimate Chase. Consisting of 20 cards, each a one-of-one, each is individually designed to include either an autograph or cut signature alongside a memorabilia piece.
