2013 IDW Limited My Little Pony Sketch Cards

My Little Pony trading cards are nothing new. In fact, Enterplay has a major hit with their MLP: Friendship is Magic Series 1 and Series 2 sets. But both those have relied primarily on base cards and simple inserts like foil cards and pop-ups. Those are great for young collectors and set builders, but some want something a little more. For the franchise's first official sketch cards, collectors are going to have to look to comics. The IDW Limited My Little Pony: The Return of Queen Chrysallis Deluxe Hardcover comes in a variety of levels that include pieces of original artwork.

Like IDW Limited's Mars Attacks Deluxe Hardcover, MLP: The Return of Queen Chrysallis comes with different labels signifying rarity and exclusivity. Red Label are the most common followed by Black Label. Blue Label hardcovers are the rarest and come with the biggest rewards. To make things a little more complicated, each label has six different covers, one for each of the main My Little Pony characters: Rarity, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie. There are 100 Red Label books for each pony (600 total), 25 for each Black Label (150 total) and five of each Blue Label cover (30 total).

Besides the book that collects the first four issues of the ongoing series, the IDW Limited My Little Pony: The Return of Queen Chrysallis Red Label Deluxe Hardcover includes a sketch card. Black Label books have a sketch cards and a sketch plate. Blue Label hardcovers don't have a sketch card but they do include an 11" by 14" painting by Sara Richard, an Eisner nominee for her all-ages book Kitty & Dino.
