Complete 2018 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variations Guide
While the 2018 Topps Series 2 Baseball variations largely mirror the Series 1 short prints in terms of the basic layout, there are some new wrinkles. The familiar includes SP and SSP options for key names, usually in pre-game or batting practice gear, in the set.
Like Series 1, the full lineup was not provided on the 2018 Topps Series 2 Baseball checklist. However, Topps did make it known that two of the surging rookies—Ronald Acuña and Gleyber Torres—were both late additions.
Although technically part of the base set, they each share their card number with another player. So, these short-printed rookies are technically base variations.
2018 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variation Odds / Set Details
Per popular breaker brentandbecca, the main 2018 Topps Series 2 Baseball SP variations average 1:6 Jumbo packs or 1:30 Hobby packs. Obviously, the SSP (super short print) cards are much harder to track down at around 1:3 Jumbo cases (1:177 packs) and 1:2 Hobby cases (1:886 packs).
Joining the current stars, retired Legends are featured among the choices. There are also very limited autographed versions for select SP and SSP subjects.
As far as Acuña and Torres, they don't seem to fall into either the SP or SSP grouping odds. Early info indicates about one per case.
The grand total for the 2018 Topps Series 2 Baseball variations is 102 with 75 SP cards, 25 SSP cards and the two late RC additions.
2018 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variation Codes

Thank you for posting these variation images. Topps, once again, improves the hobby by including these cards. Topps, once again, ruins the hobby by making many, if not all, of these inaccessible to the common man/kid.
So is there a base card for Matt Olson or is it just the sp? Also why is Scherzer a variation for Josh Bell? Why are there two #365s and no #364? Will Acuña and Torreyes be in the complete set? Thanks.
Normally Topps matches up the numbers correctly. This time a few are off, as is the case for Olson and Scherzer. Both have base cards in Series 2 with different numbers from the variations. The 365/364 issue is just an unplanned error. Acuna and Torres will both be in the complete set but with different images from the variations.
I just found 2 different 564 one with joey rickard, the other with mets team card ..both ending with 359 in the code
Both are base cards that share a card number.
anyone notice card 564 is both a Mets team card AND Joey Rickard?
Series 2 Purple parallels confirmed! I found some Series 2 Blister packs today with one pack and one loose “Purple” parallel card/blister pack at a Meijer store in MI for $1.99/pack. Meijer stores only is stated on the packaging of which there’s only 242 stores. They’re located in MI (140+), OH, KY, IN, IL, and WI only. These are the same as the Toys-R-Us purple parallels from Series 1. Is it possible these are more rare than Series 1 Toys-R-Us due to low store volume?
I can’t seem to locate the Topps Series 2 Salute #S-97 card anywhere. This should be a fairly common card. Was it produced?
It was not produced.
I have seen different images of #699 Torres – vertical image (249 variation code) – is this in addition top the image posted here?
Torres has a different image in the factory set. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2018-topps-baseball-factory-set-rookie-variations
Ah ha — yes — thank you.
Were the late SPs hobby only?
So whats the difference between the acuna bat up and bat down? I know the bat up is a ASG card… and the bat up still has a RC variation code.
Nearly every Topps card has a code. It’s not just for variations. The #698 “Bat Up” is from the complete factory set. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/ronald-acuna-rookie-cards
