Inspired by some of the most popular entertainment sets of the 1990s, and possibly ever, 2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men brings the beloved '90s look to collectors with a detailed Upper Deck Marvel release.
Featuring original artwork from Ariel Olivetti, John Stanko, Mark Texeira, and more, the art-based set highlights the many mutant heroes of the iconic X-Men. Another big name is Greg Hildebrandt, a key artist from the original set and many other notable trading card releases.
It's not just collectors that are excited as the artists themselves have been revealing their work on the set via social media. This includes David Nakayama (on Twitter) and Tom Fleming (on Instagram).
2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men Base
Similar to the 1994 and 1995 releases, 2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men works with a robust 150-card base set. Parallels consist of Silver Foil at one per pack, numbered Gold Foil (#/99) and one-of-one Red Canvas Foil.
There are also five limited subsets that average one per pack, including Dead & Gone, Deadpool Around the World, Greatest Battles, The Originals, and X-92.
2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men Inserts / Hits
As one might expect, the 2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men checklist has a detailed lineup of inserts, as well. The new Stax cards are each separated into three card layers that can be stacked together to form the complete image if you can track down the trio. There are also familiar collecting options such as Jambalaya and Precious Metal Gems. The PMG cards come in Bronze (#/199), Red (#/99), Blue (#/49), Green (#/25), Purple (#/10) and Gold (1/1) editions.
Other inserts include Metal Blasters (1:2 packs), printed on 80-point stock, and X-Cuts (1:20), which adds low-numbered Red (#/99), Yellow (#/50), Blue (#/25) and Black (#/5) parallels. Naturally printed on metal stock, Master of Magnetism is a 15-card set just for the villainous Magneto.
Among the more premium inserts in 2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men, the Cut Comic Panel cards, in single and dual form, feature actual panels from earlier issues, even going back to The X-Men #1. Also revisiting the past, foil-stamped Buyback cards from 1994 and 1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men offer a chase for nostalgic collectors.
In addition, Greg Hildebrandt supplies 3x3 Connected Image puzzle cards that utilize nine cards to form a scene by the artist. There are also redemptions for 11x14 Prints that are signed by Hildebrandt and hand-numbered to just 25 copies.
And lastly, the many talented artists contribute further with hand-drawn Sketch cards (1/1) and base Artist Red Foil Autographs (#/50).
