1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men Trading Cards

1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men Trading Cards

Brand:

Product Details

User Rating:

1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men ranks right up there among the best sets of all-time to focus on Marvel's mutants. Like the 1994 set, the focus is on original art and premium-style cards, both of which have aged nicely in the decades since.

1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men BaseWith 150 cards, the base set is on the large side for an entertainment set. Images are fully painted, taking a somewhat realistic approach. Artists include Luis Royo, Marc Sasso, Julie Bell and Boris Vallejo. Cards use a glossy finish and have foil accents for the names and logo, further lending to the more high-end nature of the set. Card backs recycle the front image, although it's cropped. It's joined by a short writeup.

For completists, the base set does have a pair of variations. Card #39 can be found with the two characters standing or flying on the front. #61 has a different back where Sauron is looking either right or left. None of these variations command a real premium.

1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men doesn't have a lot of inserts, but some versions can only be found in certain packs. This is most apparent with Hunters and Stalkers. The nine-card Powerblast set has Gold, Rainbow and Silver versions, each exclusive to a certain pack type. Golds are in Walmart packs, Rainbow are only in Hobby, and Silver are jumbo-exclusives.

Sinister Observations is a chromium set with more are from Bell and Vallejo. Rounding out the main inserts is Suspended Animation, an acetate set that focuses on the characters from the X-Men cartoon that was on the air at the time.

Sealed cases of 1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men came with a set of ten UltraPrints. These are over-sized cards that measure 6 1/2" by 10".

It is worth noting that while this is referred to as a 1995 set, it was actually released in 1994.

User Reviews

  1. I have the entire sinister observations set. I was so proud of it when I was 12. Now it’s just a dust collector.

  2. I am so confused. I have the Fleer Ultra X-Men collection (incomplete) but the cards I have don’t match those you mention in the opening write-up. You mention #61 Sauron, but my set has Blob as #61. I also have card 61 in Marvel Masterpieces and it is Justice; in my Marvel Metal set it is the character Strange; in Marvel Universe 1994 it is Thanos. Also, you mentioned the Ultra Prints. I have two large cards but they appear to be from other series…the first is Grimskull from the Fleer Skeleton Warriors series (Spiderman?) and the second is Jean Gray from a Flair ’95 Marvel Annual series. I also have holograph cards, suspended animations, gold foil signature cards, canvas cards. The final ones I want to ask about are cards that my sons pulled from the machine that were in a protective sleeve with a $1.00 sticker on them (eg…1994 Gold Foil Signature series #9, Black Widow, with two artist signatures).

My boys were four and six when we started collecting. We got to know the man who filled the machine at the corner store and whenever the boys saw his vehicle there, they would run over to tell him how much they loved collecting these cards. He would “load” the special cards near the top and tell my guys to buy the first four or five and they would get something special (usually the $1.00 cards or oversized cards).

How do I figure out what we have? Then, how do I go about finding any missing cards to complete our sets? We have both X-men and Spiderman series and I would be interested to know about any “special” cards that we may have and their value. Are there books available that I may be able to get from the library? I should mention perhaps that we live in Calgary Alberta, Canada. Is there a store here that we could go to? Any help you can give to point me in the right starting direction would be appreciated. I am reluctant to go into a store since I don’t know enough about our collections to talk to an “expert” and, of course, I have no idea who to trust to give us the right information. I don’t want to get taken in by a disreputable dealer so I would like to figure out what we have before I take the next step in completing our sets.

Sorry for how long this message is and thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Any information you can help us with would be gratefully appreciated.

    Rebecca

  3. Anyone have any clues to a 1995 fleer ultra x men all chromium box that has wolverine in the display box. I keep seeing the one with gambit on the box. I found this box at a yard sale, its half the size of a full box. Im assuming 18 packs since its half the size of a regular box. Anyways i want to know if this a real or fake, or even an international box. Any info would be great thanks

  4. I have a curious question about the Suspended Animation chase set.

Some of my cards, specifically, 1, 6, 9, and 10, show the character’s back on the back side of the card, while the others show a mirror image of the front.

The collector in me would love to collect both version, but I’m not sure if there are actually different versions available or even how to search for them. Does anyone know if this was another level of collectibility to the cards? I just don’t see anyone reference it anywhere.
