1995 Topps Star Wars Widevision Trading Cards
Product Details
1995 Topps Star Wars Widevision trading cards came out at a time when more and more film fans were starting to appreciate widescreen presentation, even when it came to home viewing. The basis of the set is to present the original Star Wars film as it was meant to be seen. This meant a fairly drastic change in format to something bigger. The result: one of the best Star Wars base sets of all-time.
The 1995 Star Wars Widevision set has 120 cards. Focusing on Episode IV: A New Hope (the first movie to hit theaters back in 1977), the set was released as the franchise was undergoing a major resurgence in popularity. It marked the first cards to feature images direct from one of the films since the second Return of the Jedi set was released more than a decade earlier.
Measuring 4 7/8 by 2 3/4 inches, the cards are big. This allows for an entire frame from the movie to be shown. Images are full remastered, allowing for an even clearer image. As beloved as the original cards are from 1977, these offer so much more. Besides the image on the front, there are small blue bands across the top and bottom. The caption on the front simply states where the card is set, giving it something of a storyboard feel. It's capped off by a holofoil Topps Widevision logo.
Backs are equally impressive. While there is a bit of a caption describing the action on the front, Topps didn't waste any of the added space. Each card also has a pair of additional behind-the-scenes images and captions giving a deep look into the production. From concept art to special effects to John Williams creating the epic score, there's a lot to be learned simply by flipping these cards over.
Released before autographs were a huge thing, 1995 Topps Star Wars Widevision has just one insert set. Finest cards are inserted 1:11 packs. The ten-card set features Ralph McQuarrie concept artwork.
The set also has a large roster of promo cards. Six with the prefix SWP came in various magazines and from other offers. Four that have a K prefix came packaged together in a box set of retro Star Wars action figures.
Following 1995 Topps Star Wars Widevision, each of the other five Star Wars films got similar Widevision sets. There have also been sets dedicated to the Special Edition trilogy and the Clone Wars as well as three different 3D Widevision sets. The over-sized format carried over into a couple of other films like Mars Attacks and Independence Day.

I have a Topps Widevision collector’s tin of Star Wars Episode 1 cards. The tin is sealed in the original wrap and never opened. The tin contains 7 packs with 8 cards per pack plus a mega-sized chrome card. The tin features OBI-WAN on the top of the tin. I also have a Young Jedi Menace of Darth Maul Collectable Card Game with two customized 30 card starter decks unopened in the original wrap.
What if anything are these two items worth ?
