Oakland Raiders Collecting and Fan Guide 1With one of the most diehard fan bases in the NFL and plenty of team success, the Oakland Raiders remain high on the collecting list. Recent years have not been as kind to fans and collectors, but the Raiders are still a worthy hobby option.

The Oakland Raiders were founded in 1960 as a member of the AFL. Following the AFL-NFL merger, the team peaked with eight division titles between 1970 and 1985. They also added Super Bowl wins in 1976, 1980 and 1983. As the their period of success was winding down, the Raiders left Oakland for Los Angeles in 1982, only to return to Oakland in 1995.

The late-1980s and earl-1990s may not have yielded much team success, but the Raiders still fielded one of the most impressive backfields in history. This dynamic tandem included one of the top backs of all-time and one that could have been one of the best if not for injuries. Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson both remain collecting favorites to this day.

Success has much harder to come by outside of a short stretch to start the new millennium. That team was led by aging stars like Tim Brown, Jerry Rice and Rich Gannon, and made it all the way to the 2002 Super Bowl, where they lost to Tampa Bay. The Raiders have not returned to the playoffs since then.

The Raiders have clearly struggled in their attempts to return to their glory days. Nowhere is that more evident than at quarterback and Oakland has not been successful at identifying a franchise quarterback. It is still too early to tell, but the team feels they might have finally found a suitable longterm quarterback with Derek Carr.
