The 2010-11 season saw the Dallas Mavericks and Dirk Nowitzki bring home the NBA Championship, preventing “the Big Three” (LeBron James/Dwyane Wade/Chris Bosh) from their first title as teammates on the Miami Heat. Blake Griffin was named Rookie of the Year despite being drafted in the 2009 NBA Draft. He was still considered a rookie for the following season because an injury prevented him from playing a single minute of the 2009-10 season.
2010-11 Basketball Cards marked the first complete year that the Panini exclusive was in full effect. Therefore, only products from Panini featured players in their NBA jerseys. Panini signed exclusive rookie card deals with John Wall, Evan Turner and Wesley Johnson, so they were not able to appear in any other competing brands. Panini also announced they had reached exclusive multi-year deals with Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin.
Several bright spots have emerged from the 2010-11 rookie class. Top rookie players include John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Paul George, Eric Bledsoe, and Gordon Hayward. Jeremy Lin was an undrafted free agent who set the hobby ablaze during several months with the New York Knicks during the 2011-12 season.
