Beard Stuff: Jayson Werth Bearded Bobblehead Fetching Hair-Raising Prices
The bobblehead is a classic baseball promotion. Literally, hundreds of different ones are given away at stadiums each year. So how do you stand out? For the Potomac Nationals, it was as simple as adding a beard. The team gave away a Jayson Werth bobblebeard on June 14 and ran out in 13 minutes after letting the first people in.
The bobblehead, which was given to the first 1,000 fans, shows Werth in a Potomac jersey. The uniqueness comes in with the addition of a big mane-like beard.
It didn't take long for the bearded Jayson Werth bobbleheads to start showing up on eBay. A handful have already sold, most in the $70-80 range with several more up for bid.
MLB bobblehead giveaways are much more plentiful. They often start at 10,000 pieces but can top 30,000 when a popular team like the Dodgers have one and everybody gets one.
Werth played a total of eight games with the Carolina League team in 2012 and 2013, an A-level affiliate for Washington.
