2020 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variations Checklist and Gallery
Even though we have reached the end of June with no baseball, the 2020 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variations are still in play for collectors.
Switching out photos (and players) from the base set has become a staple of the flagship brand.
2020 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variation Set Details
As has been the case for a while, the variations substitute images for top players and rookies in the base set from the 2020 Topps Series 2 Baseball checklist. There are also the popular "Legend" versions, which showcase a retired player. Normally, these take the place of a current player from the same franchise.
Another common feature of the variation lineup is the two different tiers of short print rarity. The more common versions are known as SP, and the tougher pulls are called SSP. Print runs are not officially revealed by Topps, but the super short print (SSP) cards are generally quite rare.
Seemingly even rarer than SSP is the third grouping that is not officially noted on the odds. Topps issued similar options in Series 1, as well.
2020 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variation Pack Odds
Based on what we have seen, the SP and SSP variations should be available in every format. When in doubt, it can also be good to check the pack odds. The listing below includes confirmed odds for a few formats, but it is by no means the full rundown. The odds for the third grouping that we are calling SSSP is unknown
- SP - 1:9 packs
- SSP - 1:254 packs
- SP - 1:6 packs
- SSP - 1:175 packs
2020 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variation Codes
Another element that is consistent with the 2020 Topps Series 2 Baseball Variations is the CMP codes on the back. Although not the actual purpose of these number sequences, eagle-eyed collectors can use them to quickly identify the variations.
Flip the card over and look for the CODE#CMP number chain, which is circled in red above. The final three digits will help you know what you have.
- Base Cards end in #099
- Advanced Stat end in #113
- SP Variations end in #115
- SSP Variations end in #116
- SSSP? Variations end in #117
It is worth noting that nearly all Topps cards have these codes. The numbers above only apply to the base image variations and not the many parallels or inserts.
If you like the images but want something larger than a card for display purposes, Topps sells the SP/SSP cards as oversized cards and posters.
We are working to get the list updated as quickly as possible. If you can help by providing missing cards and images, please send an email.
