Releasing a few weeks before the start of the 2020 MLB season, 2020 Topps Opening Day Baseball remains an entry-level set with budget box pricing.
Just like 2019, there are no expected box hits, but each pack contains one insert and there are some rare options in play.
2020 Topps Opening Day Baseball Base
Again using the flagship design, the base set in 2020 Topps Opening Day Baseball totals 200 cards, including top rookies.
Parallels consist of Opening Day Edition (2,020 copies), Opening Day 1-of-1 Edition (1/1) and Printing Plates (1/1).
In addition, limited Image Variation cards change the base photo for key players.
2020 Topps Opening Day Baseball Inserts
As in previous releases, the inserts provide most of the variety in the 2020 Topps Opening Day Baseball checklist. All inserts combine to average one per pack. Returning options include the elusive Dugout Peeks along with standard Mascots and Team Traditions and Celebrations. The Opening Day cards display the initial moments of the 2019 season for every team.
There are also some debuting insert lines. 2020 Topps Sticker Collection Preview naturally gives collectors an early look at the MLB sticker set. Spring Has Sprung honors all-time greats with previous Spring Training images. On top of that, rare The Lighter Side of Baseball cards showcasing the playful side of the game. Lastly, Walk This Way covers walk-off wins from 2019.
2020 Topps Opening Day Baseball Autographs / Relics
Hits largely stay on the backburner in 2020 Topps Opening Day Baseball, but there are still several choices. Signed inserts include Opening Day Autographs, Base Variation Autographs and Mascots Autographs. The Ballpark Profile Autograph line is new and offers MLB broadcasters and personalities.
Memorabilia also comes in several forms, such as Opening Day Relics, Mascots Relics and Mascots Autograph Relics.
Diamond Relics and Diamond Relics Autographs cards are back with ballpark dirt.
New for 2020, Major League Mementos displays stadium memorabilia while the Mascot Patch Relics (#/99) cards contain manufactured patches.
