2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball Inserts

As is the case every year, the insert sets are split between full-size and minis. On the full-size MLB insert front, 2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball has A Debut to Remember documenting the first game for 30 players, Field Generals for 20 all-time great catchers, and Longball Lore for the big bats.

Moving beyond baseball is Down on the Farm for the animals, equipment and tools found on...yup, a farm. Digging Deep focuses on treasures in the ground, including valuable gems and metals. Moving the search a bit higher, the panoramic Reach for the Sky! forms images of the most famous skyscrapers.

The mini sets largely provide non-baseball coverage. This includes Booming Cities Minis for areas with a notable population increase, Buggin' Out! Minis for insects, Citadels and Safeholds Minis for historic fortresses of the past, Safari Sights Minis for key elements of Africa, and Where Monsters Live Minis for the best places to find scary creatures. Retail-only Behemoths Beneath is for the giants of the sea.

In addition, baseball collectors can find 9 Ways to First Base Minis. Not likely to surprise anyone, these cards identify the possible ways to reach first base.

2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball Autographs

As many collectors know, a crucial part of A&G is the non-baseball autograph lineup. Within the 2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball checklist, the on-card Allen & Ginter Framed Mini Autographs breakdown includes top names from many fields. Rare editions come via the Black Framed (#/25) and Hobby-exclusive Red Ink cards.

Booklet hits expand the sizing with Allen & Ginter Autographed Relic Book cards and Dual cards. These two-paneled cards are each numbered to only 10 copies.

Also, the one-of-one Cut Signatures line features notable subjects from history and pop culture.

2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball Relics

Falling under the memorabilia designation, the 2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball relics are not your typical MLB offering. In addition to Full-Size Relics and Mini Framed Relics for select base subjects, the possibilities include items of historical significance.

Exclusive to Hobby, keep an eye out for the new Allen & Ginter Pin Relics (#/25 or less). These cards display "iconic pins from historic elections and events." The "Have Ball, Will Travel" Token Relics (#/5) set contains actual tokens from the city where the MLB superstar in question plays ball.

Other Hobby-only choices consist of Allen & Ginter DNA Relics with real fossil pieces and 100 Allen & Ginter Framed Originals Buybacks (1/1).

The Digging Deep insert mentioned above adds a Relic edition (#/10 or less) with pieces of the rare item, as well.

2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball Rip Cards

Averaging two per Hobby case, Rip cards present another run of cardboard excitement. For those not familiar with the A&G phenomenon, the serial numbered Rip cards—with 100 options in total—showcase a player on the outside and a mystery mini card on the inside. As the name indicates, this interior card can only be accessed by ripping open the exterior cover. Dual Rip cards, featuring 50 combos, are exclusive to Hobby and picture one player on each side. These cards house two minis.

As always, "to rip or not to rip" is the million-dollar question. Those taking the plunge can find Mini Exclusives cards, which are an extension of the base set, going from #351 to #400. There are also Mini Metal Exclusives (#/3), Mini Wood Exclusives (1/1) and hand-drawn Artist Originals (1/1)

2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball Box Toppers

Finally, 2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball promises one topper per Hobby box. Standard options consist of Allen & Ginter Boxloaders, Allen & Ginter N43 Boxloaders and the limited Safari Sights Boxloaders (500 copies). Hard-signed box loader versions include Allen & Ginter Boxloader Autographs (#/15 or less) and Allen & Ginter N43 Boxloader Autographs (#/15 or less).

User Reviews

  1. If this is in fact the final design – these look great! Devil is always in the details though

  2. A Debut to Remember documenting the first game for 30 players, Field Generals for 20 all-time great catchers,

Oh look two more things they can overload with yankess and dodgers and red sox cards while ignoring all the other teams including my favorite team.

Longball Lore for the big bats.

My team might get a couple cards from this set but I doubt they will get any at all.

9 Ways to First Base Minis.

How is the one they show a way to get to first? All the catcher has to do is pick the ball up and tag the player so he does not get first base. Unless the home plate umpire is joe ”no neck” west or hernandez they will blow the call and call it a strikeout after the catcher drops the ball. They should really take this one out.
