User Rating:

Panini's flagship MLBPA set, 2020 Donruss Baseball celebrates the season with a mix of old and new. Each Hobby box averages three hits that can be autographs or relics. In addition to top ballplayers, collectors can also count on the return of Domingo Ayala (Domingo Beisbol) and The Famous San Diego Chicken.

Going by the Hobby format, little has changed compared to 2019. Hobby boxes are priced at $80 (SRP).

2020 Donruss Baseball Base / Parallels

Part of the base lineup, the 2020 Donruss Baseball checklist again features top rookies in the 30-card Rated Rookie subset.

The new gimmick this year is emoji parallels.

Retro 1986 goes back 34 years to honor the '86 Donruss design. These also work in the base parallels.

2020 Donruss Baseball Inserts

Inserts push the design variety a bit more in 2020 Donruss Baseball. Every Hobby box should contain a total of five inserts.

The six-card As Seen plays off the As Seen on TV ad spots.

User Reviews

  1. Normally huge fan of Donruss, but the design this year looks a little amateur. The emoji design is glaring and distracts from the card’s appeal. Just my opinion. Will still buy my annual hobby box, but was hoping for a better design. Also, could look better in person. Topps 2019 were better once I saw them in person maybe this will be the same

  2. As with most Panini products, there is very little imagination in their designs. There is no exception here. Even when they try something different, it ends up looking silly and/or sloppy. And although I naturally not see the back, I can imagine that I’ll not be able to read it. Just another substandard Panini product. I’m glad Topps has the baseball license.

  3. with no MLB license to pay, these cards should be 1/3 of the box price.

  4. Prior seasons of Donruss had a nice clean retro look to make up for the lack of MLB licensing but this years is just a big swing and a miss. It just looks cheesy and cheap.

  5. Cheap looking set, what happened to cards 261 & 262? No need to bring back retro 1986. If panini/donruss had a mlb license, they might produce better product. Today’s cards lack very little originalization, no matter who make the cards.

  6. Stocked with a strong rookie group. A fun product to open with lots of inserts and parallels. Inexpensive product which is good for the entire family to enjoy !!

  7. No Thank you, is it me or are Cards getting worse and worse? Modern day Junk Wax Era here we come! Overpriced mass produced junk that is being held back by the distributors that send Hobby stores a box but Case breakers get a thousand cases. Greediness will ruin anything it is happening to the card industry. It is bad enough you cannot even find retail anymore it is a very sad state of affairs. If you pay 40 Dollars for a 19.99 blaster box you need your head examined.

  8. Are the yellow parallels as well as orange and red holo retail only? Haven’t seen this in any of the breaks so far. Someone can tell in which boxes of retail they are, if it is the case?

  9. So, I have the holos (blue), but some of the blue holos have some red, orange, on the borders are these considered holo red, holo orange??? Can’t find any definition but I see a lot on ebay that they say holo blue, but i think those are the holo reds. Any idea??

  10. The main design may have another color but the frame color indicates the version. This is the part that is white on the base cards.

  11. Just can’t get by the no team logo look of the panini Donruss cards . Definitely the lowest of the low end cards . Silly whammy and emoji cards really show the true cornball look of this specific brand of cards . Got a question for you Trey , why do the 2 rated rookie cards #d 263 , 264 have an asterisk behind them ? Tried to decipher it but couldn’t . Any help ?

  12. Anytime you see an asterisk in the CL, look back at the top of that specific section. *Yoshitomo Tsutsugo, Luis Robert not in Stat parallels.*

  13. Has anyone sen this at retail? I’ve seen Opening Day (released a week later) at Target, but not Donruss.

  14. 3 but can anybody explain the Diamond Kings foil and numbered cards. Does not explain well in the checklist.

  15. Through a bunch of digging and whatnot, I’ve tracked down that holo orange is hanger box, holo purple is blaster box, holo pink is mega box, holo blue is hobby, and holo red is fat pack. What I haven’t been able to find is what format has the the yellow parallels of the base cards? There are none on eBay, no one I’ve asked has seen any, and I’ve seen none in any of the breaks I’ve watched.

  16. Very hard product to make your money back on. The yellow parallels I think will be dollar store exclusives. I am just guessing based on the yellow parallels from this year nba hoops that were only in 1.00 packs at dollar stores. As of today I still have not seen any retail of this product anywhere. I think its due to the co-vid outbreak and stores are only stocking groceries and some material stuff.

  17. Since there is not much to choose from I picked up a few packs of these just to check it out. Panini baseball product is not something that I do or will ever get much of since they don’t have a MLB license. I can’t get past the lack of logos which makes them look so cheap no matter how sparkly Panini treatment they give them. As expected they have very little value to collectors.

  18. Extremely fun to break at a great price point. Lots of cards to sift through and enjoy! This is how card collecting should be! It’s a shame they are not licensed to show team names!

  19. I am brand new to card collecting and tend towards the classic look of Heritage or Ginter, however something about this set seems fun and collectible, like the emojis – until I realised they apply to the whole 230 card base set. Oh dear. They are mostly pretty cheap on the aftermarket which is great, but I feel some of the parallel types offer very little extra variety. For example they should just get rid of the Season Stat Line, Milestone Stat Line and Printing Plate ones. Really bland, even if they are numbered. And whoever thought that Emojis go well with the Diamond Kings cards…looks terrible. At the same time the Holo colour sets look really fun.

  20. This is one of my favorite products this year. For one, im on fire in the breaks with this line. I dont know why, probably because ive been cold with everything else, but it is what it is. Second, im a long time fan of the diamond kings inserts. Third, lots of hits. The one thing I noticed that im not a fan of, a lot of the chrome parallels that ive found are coming out of the packs peeling. Not a fan of that. I havent got any big hits that are peeled yet, but ive gotten a high # of cards altogether. It almost makes mw want to take another star. In fact, I think I will. 3 Stars for Donruss 2020.

  21. Good set, but a bit parallel-ridden (eats up too much of a pack/box) and placing a pair of SPs before a pair of non-SPs in the numbering at the end of the set seems odd.

  22. Diamond Kings Paperback… Was this an error or a unlisted variation?? I found a few in my breaking of 6 boxes but only seems to be a Bryce??

  23. We’ve gotten multiple reports of a faded/vintage-style back, normally on the Independence Day parallels. Panini doesn’t generally have unannounced content but there has been no other info revealed for these.

  24. It is moderately fun chasing the plethora of parallels, variations and gimmicks and some of the inserts are really nice looking. The base cards are cheap looking and does nothing to detract your attention away from the missing logos. Not much in this set will have much value now or down the road. Numbered cards are really not rare when there is so many numbered variations of the same players.

  25. Fun product to open and pretty affordable at $80 per box. I got 1 box and pulled a /10 Gavin Lux auto.

  26. Dollar Tree has the yellow parallel. The stores tell me they have no idea what products they will get each week until the semi-truck arrives.

  27. Junk, no quality control. Poor design. Company ran by mellinials with NO BRAINS. Try putting a set together when you cant even read numbers in back, real smart
