2018 Topps Update Series Baseball Variations Guide
The 2018 Topps Update Series Baseball variations stick to the typical flagship style of SP/SSP options, MLB legends and moderate overall rarity. There are also autographed versions for many of the subjects.
Adding a little more to the short print hunt with signatures, Topps made it easier this time by including the full variation autograph lineup on the final 2018 Topps Update Series Baseball checklist. Those are listed below, as well.
Replacing the base subjects entirely, the Legend cards feature retired greats. Outside of the key rookies, these tend to be some of the most popular cards since they let collectors obtain new flagship options for the former stars.
2018 Topps Update Series Baseball Variation Odds / Set Details
Although the SP variations in 2017 Update were incredibly easy to pull, 2018 Topps Update Series Baseball variations are more in line with the pack odds found in 2018 Series 2. More specifically, that is 1:9 Jumbo and 1:45 Hobby for the standard short prints, and 1:71 Jumbo and 1:273 Hobby for the super short prints.
2018 Topps Update Series Baseball Variation Codes
Given the sheer number of choices and the inconsistency with how they are placed in the checklist, the CMP codes can be particularly useful for identifying the 2018 Topps Update Series Baseball variations, even if it is not their intended purpose. Simply check the final digits on the back of the card (under the stats) to see what you have. They are in the bolded section to the right of the Topps website URL in the bottom-right corner.
- SP Variations end in #30
- SSP Variations end in #32
We should have most of the cards up in the coming days, but please email us if you have missing details (or images) to add to the guide.

SCOTT JANKE
I’m back in the hobby after 12 years of leaving it & I must say these insert cards are getting very confusing. I read about the numbering system they have, but example 2018 TOPPS Update Series Legends in the Making is #’d on back (LITM), same as 2018 TOPPS Series 1.
How are we going to remember 20 years down the road what insert cards came from what series? TOPPS should only make 1 style for each year & have many different insert sets, but then, don’t redo them in Series 2 or Update Series as it is getting very confusing for some of us folks.
