Picking up with a new collecting season, 2017 Topps Throwback Thursday Baseball continues the online-only set first established in 2016. The weekly releases are sold exclusively through Topps' store with a specific theme that also pays tribute to an earlier design.
Unlike the Topps Now format that only offers a 24-hour sales period, 2017 Topps Throwback Thursday Baseball gives collectors exactly one week to purchase before the set is removed from their site and final production numbers are revealed.
2017 Topps Throwback Thursday Baseball cards are issued in set form—normally six cards per batch—that are their own standalone release, but it still adds to the overall TBT set. Each set repurposes a previous Topps design from across their history and not just baseball designs.
TBT Set 1 utilizes the 1988 Topps MLB All-Star design for 2017 Hall of Fame inductees. Subsequent sets honored designs from the 1950s, '60s ,'70s, '80s, '90s and 2000s, mixing current and former stars and even using non-baseball designs.
Prices are a standard $19.99 for each set with a discounted rate of $49.99 for three-set bundles. The Derek Jeter-led Set 11 (Icons Honored with Retired Numbers) is the exception as it was priced at $22.22 to pay respect to Jeter.
