2017 Bowman Platinum Baseball Variations Gallery and Guide
Giving collectors a new choice to satisfy their SP itch, the 2017 Bowman Platinum Baseball Variation cards bring short-printed options for several key players. With Topps, you never know where variations will pop up next and the prospect-heavy, Walmart-only set joins the ranks.
Covering a relatively small amount of subjects, the list features seven players from the base set and an additional three young players from the Top Prospects subset. Bringing the total to 10 cards, there is still good representation with superstars like Mike Trout joined by rookie standouts such as Andrew Benintendi, and finally, a trio of up-and-coming stars.
Considering how tough variations have been lately, 2017 Bowman Platinum Baseball Variations fall more moderately but are still not easy to pull. In the Collector boxes featuring two autograph, they combine to average 1:165 packs, while Blasters are 1:156 packs.
As all 10 short prints were noted on the final 2017 Bowman Platinum checklist, the only question that remained for collectors was how to know the difference. Perhaps the easiest method is just observing the images on the front. The gallery below addresses that with a side-by-side comparison showcasing the base card on the left, and the SP variation on the right.
2017 Bowman Platinum Variation Codes
Although the image is the main way to identify the variations, collectors can also go to the back of the card for another indication. A regular occurrence with Topps products, the CODE#CMP listing at the bottom of the card (under the stats) provides a way to distinguish a variation without needing the image on the front. Verify the last digits of the number to see what you have.

Have an Austin Meadows TP-AM with 2670 code… is this the code for SSPs?
Trey Treutel
Yep. Those SP Top Prospects cards are easier since there is no base version for the 10 short prints.
