Although the hobby trend seems to be going more toward digital collectibles, 2016 Topps Star Wars Card Trader flips the script with physical cards from the SWCT digital app. The crossover set includes many of the iconic base and insert designs from the digital card world of Star Wars.
The SWCT physical base set includes 100 character cards with new images on the original Series 1 base design. They are joined by a mix of parallels that unlock an exclusive card in the app, including Blue (1 per pack), Red (1:4 packs), Green (#/99), Orange (#/50) Battle Damaged (#/10) and Slave I (#/5) editions.
Likely to elicit a mixed response, the hits move away from the physical side with Star Wars Actor Digital Autographs which unlock signed cards in the app. Base versions are limited to 25 copies and there are also Red (#/10) and Gold (#/5) parallels.
Celebrating some of the most popular inserts from the app, the 2016 Topps Star Wars Card Trader features fan favorites like Classic Artwork with artistic versions of main characters, Film Quotes that showcases notable lines from the franchise, Galactic Moments which celebrates key Star Wars moments with unique photos, and Topps Choice that highlights less heralded subjects. Perhaps one of the most in-demand inserts from the app, Reflections represents tangible versions of the captivating digital card images.
Collectors can also find SWCT redemption cards (1:24 packs) that are good for digital packs in the app.
While it is available at both hobby shops and retail locations, it is important to note that 2016 Topps Star Wars Card Trader is a retail-style product without traditional box hits. Pack prices should be around $2.
