As is normally the case, 2016 Topps Opening Day Baseball elected to not include the variations on the final checklist, leaving collectors to fend for themselves. This is where we come in. Unlike the more recent options — like 2016 Heritage — the 2016 Topps Opening Day Variations are only about the image differences and they are quite obvious. This is more similar to the 2016 flagship variations.
Continuing the theme first noted in Heritage, codes on the card backs again appear to be no help and are the same for base and variation alike (#7425). This puts additional importance on being able to spot the photos. One other observation is that many of the 2016 Topps Opening Day Baseball Variations flip the orientation to horizontal, making them easier to notice in comparison to the many vertical base cards..
