Product Details
Treated as the culmination to the Bowman line for the collecting season, 2016 Bowman's Best Baseball largely stays true to the 2015 release that restarted the colorful brand. Every master box offers four autographs.
Featuring a bold background with a lot of activity, the base set includes veterans, rookies and top prospects. The rainbow parallel is not too extreme with Atomic Refractor (1 per master box), Blue Refractor (#/150), Green Refractor (#/99), Gold Refractor (#/50), Orange Refractor (#/25), Red Refractor (#/5), and SuperFractor (1/1).
With four autographs per box, collectors can find several designs and themes in 2016 Bowman's Best Baseball. Showcasing current and future stars, Best of 2016 Autographs acts as the main signed set. Base versions are joined by Refractor, Orange Refractor, Atomic Refractor (#/25), Red Refractor (#/5), and SuperFractor (1/1) parallels.
Other signed cards include a nod to the past with on-card 1996 Bowman's Best Autographs that also come in Atomic Refractor (#/25) and SuperFractor (1/1) parallels. Dual Autograph combines two hard-signed signatures for players with a shared connection. They also have a SuperFractor (1/1) parallel.
Closing out the set, 2016 Bowman's Best Baseball incorporates several standard inserts. 1996 Bowman's Best honors the earlier design with past and present players. Prospect Forecast (via Baseball America) inserts put forth their best call-up date guesses while Mirror Images pairs two players on the same card. Lastly, Stat Lines documents the key performances of the season.
Each of the inserts also include Orange Refractor (#/35) and SuperFractor (1/1) parallels. Limited signed parallels exist for both Prospect Forecast and Stat Lines.

2016 Bowman’s Best Baseball Product Review

Good: Mostly on-card autographs, vibrant design, 1996 inserts look great.
Bad: Busy design does not really fit typical Bowman style, most of the main inserts offer little plus feature sticker autograph parallels, could be a bit more color in every box.
The Bottom Line: An outlier for Bowman sets, this can help or hurt depending on collectors' preferences. Still, with four on-card autographs per box and a price point under $100, the product is a solid option that includes young talent and modern superstars.

Seemingly more loud than the 2015 design, I personally like the look of the base design even if the larger team logo is a bit obnoxious. Sure, it doesn’t have the more classic look of the other Bowman sets, but for me, that’s a good thing since it gets old seeing the stuff stuff on repeat. Because there is so much going on with the background, it is also easier to accept minimal Refractor color in my box, but I would have liked a little more representation.
The main autographs are much more simple with mainly just a honeycomb design to give it a distinct look. I like that the Best of 2016 autograph is not just a base parallel and also that it contrasts well with the busier base look.
Although the 1996 insert is basically just an homage to the earlier design, they still look great and the on-card autographs are quite impressive. The rest of the inserts are okay but don’t really jump out as much, in my opinion. Plus, the sticker autograph parallels are not ideal on a low-numbered card when everything else is hard-signed.
Checklist: 3.75/5.0
Beyond the normal issues with inconsistent team or player coverage, the overall checklist is solid. Of course, the list is heavy on prospects, but this should be expected from a Bowman brand and there is still noticeable non-prospect representation. While the total autograph pool is very large, 2016 Bowman’s Best Baseball checklist does a good job of mixing in some big-name prospects, rookies, and current stars.
Value: 3.75/5.0
Selling around $90 per box at the time of this review, 2016 Bowman’s Best Baseball is a decent value when you consider the four autographs per box and mainly on-card signatures. While it is unlikely to rival traditional Bowman values, the pieces are there for an enjoyable break that limits the gamble somewhat.
The Fun Factor: 4.25/5.0
Bowman’s Best is not for everyone but I find it to be a very fun experience. My specific box had autograph highs and lows with a redemption to go along with a live, on-card Bryce Harper autograph. Even without the Harper auto, the box break was fun for me as I appreciate the wilder designs.
