2014 Panini Playbook Football Cards

Any news of them releasing a 2015 playbook? I received a down and dirty justin hunter to 10. and Blake Bortles auto.. The auto was a bit slanted, on its way to not being visible into the card. Luckily the autographed stopped just before going off the acetate. However I was very pleased with the box and really looking forward to the release of this years!! Hopefully there will be one?

I can’t say anything negative about this product. I bought my very first one today at a local card show and of course was expecting nothing super great. I thought wrong. I hit my very first true 1/1 game used, autographed, and printing plate Tavon Austin. The second was just a nice 3/10 dual jersey Charles Sims book.

I am not too sure what the hell Panini is doing with this product. It’s almost a guarantee lose money product with only 2 cards in it. We have done a few case breaks on this product and have seen almost 75% of the boxes with mediocre cards that would not fetch half of the box price.

Wait till the product goes below $60 before you buy.

Snoozed out on this release…anybody else think Panini wasted a lot of ink this year? I mean ok, cool booklets…good price…thats all I got….

Im happy with my Garoppalo 1/1 Book but why the hell is Panini putting HOT ROOKIES in Playbook???

Have to say, although I appreciate the price point of the product has reduced since last year, I feel the quality of the product has reduced further.

The booklets are the main draw of course, and they are still obviously the highlight. I’ve seen a few Armoury and Game of Inches cards, both of which look good, and Down and Dirty makes a welcome return.

The secondary cards are where the package falls down. Firstly, each case gets one (sometimes two) Hot Rookies Orange auto card, which seems like a cheap bit of recycling on Panini’s part. Another new card type are the clear acetate autos, which are awkward to see at times, are worryingly flimsy and on occasion suffer from the auto acetate looking as if it has ‘slipped’ downwards, obscuring the auto behind the cardboard. The Rookie X and O cards feature a patch of relic so small that they feel very underwhelming.

If you take a look at the checklist here, you will see that there are plenty of desirable cards in this set – this is no doubt helped by 2014’s draft class being much stronger than last year’s, meaning Rookie booklets usually have much more in potential value than last year’s Rookie booklets.

Sadly, the ‘busts’ feel much lower this year too. In my first pack this year I pulled a Tom Savage X relic, and a Tahj Boyd Rookie Booklet silver auto, which combined probably total about a tenth of the $90 price tag in value.

I usually buy a case of Prestige and a case of Playbook each year, but this season I had concerns and so ordered the above-mentioned tester box. Obviously it did very little to help matters! Think I’ll pass on that case this year and perhaps pick up some of my more desired cards in auctions or forums.

Although some of the booklet cards are stunning, many are not. The “Points” autos are certainly nice, but they could be from any product.

At $100 for a 2 pack, 4 card box? I expect an auto’d booklet, even if the swatch is a single color.

Horrible. Got a box early and the two cards were a jersey card and a points card. Wow panini. Keep screwing us.

Overall, a GRADUAL to CONSIDERABLE improvement over last years’ version; taking into account several factors: 1. NO Redemptions; after ripping into a case last year, and compiling 3/4 Redemptions in the process, I was impressed with the ZERO Redemptions I pulled outta this years’ case. 2. Price Point; understanding that this years’ version provides HALF the cards, per box, compared to past years, paying 70+ for two lower numbered rookie autos (at least ONE booklet; though 2/3’s of the boxes contained two booklets!) 3. PACKAGING! Very frustrating last year to pay that price point, only to receive @ least a half dozen cards (out of the entire case) that were ‘beat-up’ STRAIGHT from the pack! Maybe this years’ designs are a little ‘cleaner,’ and therefore easier to keep mint; OR, we can simply thank the more secure, reduced packaging for this years’ PLAYBOOK. All-in-All, a “9/10” grade FOR YEAR-OVER-YEAR improvement of product, and a “7.5/10” grade FOR OVERALL product. (Again considering: hits, price point, design, current ‘comparable’ competitive products in the market, AND manufacturer Q.C.!!! LASTLY Robbie (from above) I pulled a few Pats cards that you might like!

Nice cards, but as a Patriots fan, I can’t help but be disappointed in the representation shown in the set.
