Over the course of its first seven-plus decades, the DC Universe has seen some massive clashes. From cities being leveled to universes being threatened, comic heroes and villains have shared a lot of heat. 2014 Cryptozoic DC Comics: Epic Battles tackles several of the biggest in a release that's unlike any other DC set they've produced to date.
The 63-card base set is broken down into seven puzzles, each fitting nicely in a nine-pocket page. Puzzles highlight massive crossover events that ran through several books and included lots of marquee characters. Featured storylines include Crisis on Infinite Earths, Panic in the Sky, Bloodlines, Zero Hour, Blackest Night, Flashpoint, and Trinity War.
Chase cards are led by Sketch Cards, which land one per box.
Totally Fabricated (1:160) plays with the memorabilia card concept. They imagine what the costumes would be like if the characters were real. Green Lantern, The Flash and Harley Quinn are subjects in the set.
A pair of insert sets focus on two artists' takes on DC characters. Patrick Ballesteros provides the artwork for Make Believe (1:10), a set that has kids playing dress-up as DC heroes and villains. THARP does character cards for a set called BAM! (1:10). BAM! inserts also have a sticker parallel (1:20). Bombshells (1:10) feature DC pinups done with an over-sized foldout format.
The base set, BAM! and Make Believe each have three parallels: Copper (1:5), Gold (1:10) and Metal (1:20).
All 2014 Cryptozoic DC Comics: Epic Battles base and basic insert cards except Bombshells are printed on premium foil card stock the card maker has dubbed Cryptomium.
Randomly inserted are redemptions for original comic art. These are extremely rare, landing 1:5,000 packs.
