Product Details
2014 Bowman Sterling Football is pretty much about two things, rookies and hits. Virtually the entire checklist is first-year players. And those that aren't use rookie images. And then there are the autographs and memorabilia cards. Every box has a total of 13 of them.
Autographs combine to fall one per pack. The majority of them are Rookie Autographs, which have the same general design as the base set. Refractor parallels include Gold, Black (#/50), Pulsar (#/25), Blue Wave (#/15) and Superfractors (1/1). There are also Rookie Autograph Short Prints that have a similar parallel structure minus the Gold Refractors. Every box has a total of four Rookie Autographs.
Select veterans have autographs in 2014 Bowman Sterling Football as well. But there's a twist. They use a rookie image. Veteran Autographs have the same design as the Rookie Autographs. The parallels are also the same.
Dual Autographs (#/25) have both rookie and veteran signatures. Autographed Patch parallels are numbered to 5. Triple Autographs (#/10) follow a similar pattern.
The Ultimate Rookie Autograph Book Card (#/5) has five panels. It's signed by all 40 players attending the 2014 NFLPA Rookie Premiere.
Autographed Rookie Relics mix signatures and memorabilia. These have several Refractor parallels: Gold (#/99), Green (#/75), Black (#/50), Pulsar (#/25), Blue Wave (#/15) and Superfractor (1/1). Blue Wave and Superfractors have patch swatches.
Every case of 2014 Bowman Sterling Football has a Pulsar Refractor Dual Autograph Dual Patch card. Each is numbered and feature rookie signatures.
Every one-per-pack Rookie Dual Relic has one regular piece and one patch. They have five Refractor parallels as well as Printing Plates.
The 2014 Bowman Sterling base set has just 100 cards. However, they're all rookie cards. Parallels include Gold Refractors (#/99), Black Refractors (#/75), Pulsar Refractors (#/50), Blue Wave Refractors (#/25), Printing Plates and Superfractors.
Every box of 2014 Bowman Sterling Football also has one box topper that's a guaranteed hit. They come in two types. Jumbo Rookie Patch Blue Wave Refractors have a massive player-worn swatch. Parallels come in four types of Refractors and Printing Plates. Autographed Purple Wave Refractors are all serial numbered. These have one-of-one Superfractor parallels.

2014 Bowman Sterling Football Product Review

Good: 13 hits per box, quality stock on hit cards, intricate design.
Bad: Sticker autographs, most hits are not numbered, many weak links in autograph checklist.
The Bottom Line: As a product with mostly rookies, there is a decent chance that some of the names found in the box will not ring a bell with collectors. 2014 Bowman Sterling Football certainly packs a premium look and the stock is high-quality, but the $200+ price tag is hard to justify with sticker autographs and a lot of practice squad and undrafted rookie autographs.
Card Design: 3.3/5.0
All the cards feature a detailed design and the base cards and base autographs include a team logo. The dark design does make it a bit more difficult to fully appreciate the intricacy and the surface is very prone to smudges and scratches. Depending on your preference, the design can also easily be described as busy.
The main rookie autographs are basically the base cards with a sticker autograph and a much thicker card stock. The stickers have been part of the product for a while but it is still hard to accept in a premium product. However, the autographed relics do a better job of incorporating the sticker.
The other hits are mostly all dual jersey cards for top rookies. The rookie relics tweak the main design a little and there is more of a generic background along with dual jersey pieces. It is hard to get too excited for small and plain jersey relics, especially from what is likely event-worn gear.
The only other likely hit is the box topper pack, which contains either a jumbo relic or a non-relic Purple Wave parallel that uses the autographed relic design. I pulled the jumbo relic card and it certainly is an impressive patch, regardless of the origin.
Checklist: 2.3/5.0
Given that the product is almost all rookies, the checklist goes deep into the 2014 class. This would not be a great thing most years and it is certainly not preferred this year. This is the most apparent in the base set, but the autographs also include a lot of names that would not be great pulls.
While the relics checklist is better across the board than the autographs, a good relic card is not usually strong enough to overcome a bad autograph.

When you spend $200 to $250 for a box of cards, there are certain expectations. Although 13 hits sounds great, half are unnumbered relics that are each likely to be worth a few dollars. With the remaining hits being sticker autographs, this is a very tough product to bust by the box and expect a decent return.
The Fun Factor: 3.5/5.0
As previously mentioned, the product has a deep rookie checklist. This is not a bad thing for collectors who are looking for more obscure players, but in a premium product, it is not ideal. I consider myself quite knowledgable on football and still had to look up several of the cards I pulled. That being said, the product was fun because the hits were non-stop and the quality of the cards was very apparent. The stickers do put a damper on things and leaves you wishing they were signed on-card.

I do enjoy this product from 2014 (mostly because of the amount of talent in the draft). $150(ish) is a bit steep for a product that has 6 dual relic cards per box with the absolute most expensive base card in that set being $25 (Beckham). I do like the parallels offered and when you hit a Pulsar of a really good player, it makes it all worth it. I have opened around 30-40 boxes so far, have completed the base card set 3 times (close to a 4th), completed the dual relic set once (3 cards away from a 2nd set) and appx 20 cards away from completing the base auto set. I would have to say that I have opened WAY more bust boxes that good boxes. I have only pulled 1 printing plate (De’Anthony Thomas Jumbo Relic) and 3 Dual Auto/Dual Relic Pulsar (M Bryant/Watkins, A Murray/McCarron and Carr/Mack). Very good overall product with a price point that is a little high for what the average box contains.
