As you rip open your packs and boxes of 2013 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Brand New Series 2, look carefully at the numbers. The set has some C variations that give characters a third name. These rare cards are commanding extremely high prices as collectors try to build their master sets.
There are 18 different 2013 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Brand New Series 2 C variations. All are based on classic characters from the franchise's original run during the 1980s. For those familiar with Garbage Pail Kids, they know that all characters have two different names, an A and a B. They show the same picture on the front but have a different name and the numbering is noted with the letter. In essence, it doubles the set size without having to create any additional artwork.
For the cards that have variations in Brand New Series 2, the A name is a repeat of one of the original names. The B version is a new name. Finally, the C variation is the original name that was left out of the base set. Let's look at an example:
- 101a Nasty NICK - first appeared in 1985 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Series 1.
- 101b Garlic RICK - new to Brand New Series 2.
- 101c Evil EDDIE - appeared alongside Nasty NICK in the original Series 1.
2013 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Brand New Series 2 C Variations use the same backs as the A name cards. Printing Plates are the only parallels.
While Topps didn't release odds on the variations, they did say they were extremely rare. In the first month after its release, just a handful showed up for sale on eBay. Prices have been extremely strong, with most now selling for $200-250 a piece.
