2013 Topps Five Star Football closes out the card year, at least as far as NFL products go. And while it has been a disappointing year as far as high-profile rookies go, Five Star has some of the most high-end cards of the year.
Rookie cards in the product are all autographed patch cards. Signatures are on-card as well. Topping it off is the fact that 2013 Topps Five Star Football Rookie Autographed Patch cards are the rarest rookie cards of the year. Numbered to 94 copies each, that's a touch less than National Treasures, which comes in at 99 copies and up.
If you're chasing high-end rookie cards, it comes down to preference. Five Star are, generally, rarer. National Treasures continues to have better brand recognition, not to mention bigger patch swatches.
Besides the base versions numbered to 94, 2013 Topps Five Star Football Rookie Autographed Patch cards parallels numbered to 55 or less. These have larger patch swatches more in line with National Treasures.
Despite a checklist that runs from numbered 101 to 145, there are only 40 cards to chase. Numbers 111, 122, 141, 142 and 143 do not exist. And while he appears on Topps' final checklist, Mike Gillislee looks as though he might not be in the set either. After close to a week on the market only an autographed insert of him had surfaced on eBay.
