Product Details
2013 Topps Finest Baseball marks the 20th anniversary of the brand's debut. 1993 Topps Finest was a landmark release, one of the most influential ever on the modern hobby. It should come as no surprise then, that the card maker is revisiting the classic set. That's not to say that the 2013 installment is a completely retro release because it's not. 2013 Topps Finest Baseball has several new designs to go along with the familiar Refractors and rookie-focused autographs.
Every 2013 Topps Finest Baseball hobby box comes packaged with a pair of six-pack mini boxes. Each master box promises an on-card Autographed Refractor Rookie and an Autographed Jumbo Relic Rookie.
Autographed Refractor Rookie cards use a similar design to the base set. A player photo is placed against a dotted background that's accented by team colors. It's both modern and minimal, letting the chromium card stock take much of the attention. As always, there are several parallels to keep player collectors busy: X-Fractor (#/149), Green Refractor (#/125), Orange Refractor (#/99), Gold Refractor (#/50), Red Refractor (#/25), Atomic Refractor (#/5), Printing Plates and SuperFractors (1/1).
Autographed Jumbo Relic Rookie have a horizontal design that has a large memorabilia swatch placed above a sticker signature. Refractors have the same color scheme and numbering as Autographed Rookie Refractors. Parallels numbered to 25 or less all use patches.
The 100-card 2013 Topps Finest Baseball base set features both veteran players and rookies, not retired stars. There are eight different Refractor types to go after. Basic Refractors and X-Fractors are not serial numbered, but all others are. Numbering ranges from 199 for Green Refractors down to one-of-one SuperFractors. Printing Plates are also available for base cards.
1993 Topps Finest is an insert set that uses current players on the landmark design. Refractors are numbered to 25. 1993 Topps All-Star Finest recreates the design that was used in both a popular subset and on jumbo box toppers. Refractors are numbered to 10 while Autographed Refractors come numbered to 5.
1993 Topps Finest is revisited in a trio of high-end bonus inserts as well. Random hot boxes are filled with 2013 Topps Finest Baseball 1993 Finest Refractor inserts. Autographed Buybacks, numbered to 5, are autographed Refractors from the original set. Some boxes also have Jumbo Autographed 1993 All-Stars (#/5).
1993 isn't the only year celebrated in 2013 Topps Finest Baseball. Finest Master Refractors (#/50) are inspired by a base set subset from 1997. Autographs are numbered to 15 or less and Superfractors are one-of-ones. Finest Prodigies Die-Cut Refractors get their name from a 1996 subset. Focusing on young players, Autographs are limited to 10 numbered copies or less. Each card also has one SuperFractor.
2013 Topps Finest Baseball has a handful of Triple Autographs, all of which are numbered to five.
The Rookie Redemption Program returns. Redemption card holders get an autographed card numbered to 100 that will be announced during the 2013 season. This enables Topps to use the latest call-ups and adds a little speculation to the process.

Product Review
2013 Topps Finest Baseball Product Review
Reviewed by Jeff Woodward
Good: One parallel or hit per pack. High-gloss card finish. Cool throwback insert designs. Nice mix of rookies and veterans.
Bad: Only two hits per box. Boring base card and autograph background design. Redemptions.
The Bottom Line: Topps has been bringing out a nice product with Finest each year. This year they incorporated some cool throwback designs from 1993 to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the product. The cards all are on a nice stock high-gloss finish with a pretty basic base and autograph design. The 1993 throwbacks bring a small amount of flair to these cards. The bland background of the base and other colored parallels certainly leave something to be desired.
There is some high potential with the triple autographs, and the possibility of pulling some of the top-name prospects. With that, the majority of the boxes I have seen have been not been great. Given the price, I would expect more bang. It also seems that more redemptions are in products this year.
Card Design: 2.5/5.0
This is one of the weakest designs for the brand in several years. With a bleak background of varied ovals, and a lot of pictures of players hitting, I think it is a pretty weak. I'm not sure exactly what the designers were going for.
The Refractors and X-fractors are similar to most other products. They are the same cards as the base, but differing only in the final finish on the card. If the parallelss were not numbered, it would be hard to tell the difference between those and the base.
With this said, they certainly differentiated the autographs by coloring in the background with a strong color to represent the version of the signature. The multi-autograph and relic autograph cards are also a completely different design, which is refreshing to see.
The throwback designs of many of the other inserts are cool cards to look at, but this kind of sticks with the norm in a lot of the Topps products the past few years. The Finest Prodigies inserts are really nice. Die-cut on the top and rounded on the bottom corners, there are some very good young players represented on these cards.
Checklist: 2.5/5
The checklist for 2013 Topps Finest Baseball gives the collector a base set consisting of 100 cards. The players range from the hottest young guys (Puig and Wacha) to some of the more established veteran players (Pujols and Rivera).
When it comes to chase cards, the number of different types of cards is not extensive. There are colored parallels of each type of card, but not as extensive a checklist as I would like to see from a product costing this much and and just two hits per box.
Value: 2.5/5.0
With only two hits in each box, this product just does not hold the value that should be found in this type of mid-end box. The potential for a really big hit is almost non-existent. The lack of a large variation of inserts in this product does not help the overall value of breaks. There is a mix of veterans and young stars, but there is not a lot of value in a low-end parallels these days. So, if you are busting this to get the big hit, you will likely be disappointed. If you are busting this to try and resell, you will likely be disappointed.
The Fun Factor: 2.5/5.0
I always look forward to opening Finest. I have been a fan of this product for the past couple of years, but this year was disappointing. With not a lot of parallels, and only two hits per box, there is not a lot to look forward to. The Refractors are not nearly as exciting as the throwback inserts. With some big names, there is always a feeling in the background that something big is going to come out, but not nearly enough to make up for the limited checklist and a weak design. It started out fun, but it turned into a pretty large disappointment by the time the packs were gone.

Mike Olt
Love the design and a pretty solid checklist. Opened three boxes, the first box yielded a Shelby Miller auto relic /149 plus a Carlos Martinez on card auto /149. Second box. Evan Gattis xfractor auto /149 and Oswaldo Arcia auto relic. Thrid box, Jacky Bradley Jr orange auto relic /100 and a Dylan Bundy auto. Parallels were David Price, Mark Trumbo, and Austin Jackson greens /199. So it was basically one nice hit and one ok/bad hit a box
