Product Details
Back after a year's hiatus, 2012-13 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball is a release that largely gets right to the big stuff. Packaged in five-card tins, each comes with three hits.
The 2012-13 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball set has 250 cards. This includes 100 Glass Rookies, autographed rookie cards. Signed on-card, one autographed rookie card is in every tin. The base set is complimented by Gold, Platinum and Black parallels.
Like the Glass Rookies, a big focus of the product is hard-signed autographs. Treasured Ink goes that route with signatures from current stars and retired players. Time to Shine offers additional rookie autographs. Besides the promised Glass Rookies autograph, tins deliver one additional signature.
2012-13 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball has six different game-used memorabilia inserts. Revolution Materials has jersey swatches from two different players. The pieces are back-to-back and can be spun around to show either swatch. All-Star Materials highlight players from All-Star Game. Memorabilia cards combine to fall one per box.
Product Configuration: 1 pack per box, 5 cards per pack
Price Point: Mid- to High-End Basketball Card
Target Audience: Autograph Collectors, Rookie Card Collectors, Memorabilia Card Collectors
2012-13 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball Box Break
- 2 Autographs
- 1 Game-Used Memorabilia Card
- 5 Total Cards

Product Review
2012-13 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball Product Review
Reviewed by Kenneth Ashley
Good: Time To Shine and Treasured Ink autograph cards look amazing. Cool concept on Rookie Glass autographs. Diverse mix of past and present players.
Bad: Bland memorabilia cards. Absence of chase cards. Content doesn't justify per pack price.
The Bottom Line: Timeless Treasures was a glorious product in its first two years of production. Unfortunately, this is just a stripped down version of a once-great product. Without the great chase cards that Timeless Treasures is known for, this year's version becomes forgettable. The hits in this product look very similar to hits in other products, and the only distinction is the product name on the card.
Card Design: 4.0/5.0
The base cards for Timeless Treasures look classy. A simple action shot of the player is placed on a background and outlined near the edges of the card with a gold frame. The player and team name are etched in bronze foil at the bottom of the card. The base set also features additional foil parallels, including Silver (#/25), Gold (#/10), and Platinum (1/1).
The rookie cards in this set all include autographs and contain the same basic elements as the base cards. The obvious difference in the Glass Rookie cards is the slice of "glass" with an autograph sticker, embedded in the card. While the concept is interesting and the cards look good, the “glass” feels more like a microscope slide from science class. Despite the blast of high school nostalgia, this design change makes for a much clearer autograph than the leather rookie autographs from previous editions of Timeless Treasures.
As far as regular inserts go, there are two: Rookie Match-Ups and Three-Piece Puzzles. Rookie Match-Ups pit two rookies against each other, placed on top of a hardwood background. These cards are limited to 99 copies each. The Three-Piece Puzzles insert takes the top three players from select NBA teams and places them on die-cut cards that fit together with the same team cards, forming a puzzle. These cards are numbered to 199 copies each. While it is a nice concept, it really has no place in a mid-end product like Timeless Treasures.
The rest of the product is made is up of autograph and memorabilia cards. All-Star Materials features memorabilia from the 2011 NBA All-Star Game, and the card is decked out in either the East or West Team color. The memorabilia swatch is die-cut in a star-shaped design. Base versions are limited to 149 copies or less, while Prime parallels are limited to 49 copies or less. Overall, this is a nice memorabilia set.
Treasured Threads features a nice horizontal swatch of jersey along with a full body shot of the player. There’s a healthy mix of star power from both retired and current players here. Regular versions are limited to 99 copies, while Prime versions (Which look sweet!) are limited to 10 copies or less.
The Revolution Materials set is where things get interesting. Two players are paired together with memorabilia swatches in the middle. The swatches are embedded in a little swivel so you can rotate the pieces and decide which player’s jersey piece you want facing out on the card. At the end of the day, they make for a interesting spin on memorabilia cards, pun intended. These unique cards are limited to 75 copies each.
Time To Shine autographs feature signatures from the top rookies in the double class. The background is dominated by a sun design, complete with little sun rays, to accentuate the set theme. A shot of the player is placed in the forefront, with the autograph underneath. All the autographs are on-card, which is a definite plus. I can see this set possibly being as popular as the Next Day auto set from 2010-11 Limited Basketball.
Validating Marks features on-card autographs from emerging NBA talent. The design is very clean, and there is plenty of space for a nice autograph. This makes for a good overall set.
Lastly, Treasured Ink features on-card autographs from the best of current and retired stars. This is the premium autographed set in the product and it seems to have borrowed a bit from the Private Signings set that Panini sprinkles throughout its entire product line. The design allows for a large signing area and the result is a very nice looking card.
Checklist: 4.5/5.0
One thing Panini always gets right is the variety in their checklists. In addition to the the usual mix of retired players, stars, and veterans, there's the double-class that's present in all 2012-13 basketball products. But also sprinkled in are players that don't have much representation in recent products, such as Reggie Lewis, Jamal Mashburn, and Allan Houston. This variety is extended to the autograph checklist, where interesting signers include Yao Ming, Larry Johnson, Penny Hardaway, and Alonzo Mourning.
Trying to complete the 150 card base set is a tall order, seeing how each tin only comes with a few base cards. Admittedly, this product is not aimed directly at the set collector.
Value: 1.0/5.0
In a five-card tin, you will receive at least two autographs and another autograph or memorabilia card. At least one of the autographs is a Glass Rookie Autograph. In our tin, we pulled 7 total cards, which seems to be the case with the other breaks we saw. At the current price, the product is a major risk. Due to the double-rookie class, there is quite a good chance to pull a D-League player's autograph as one of your hits. This is unacceptable for a product with this high of a price. Another drawback to the product is the absence of chase cards. What made the product such a fun break in previous editions was the presence of monster hits such as Logomans, Laundry Tags, and Legendary Cut Autographs. Due to the product being stripped down yet having a high price tag, breaks are very high-risk, medium-reward.
The Fun Factor: 3.0/5.0
The aforementioned absence of chase cards in 2012-13 Panini Timeless Treasures dulls the product a bit. However, it remains a fun break if you are able to stomach the losses. A nice Kyrie Irving or Anthony Davis Autograph will make a break worthwhile. Revolution Materials is a nice concept, but it doesn't do anything for me as far as revolutionizing memorabilia cards. The rest of the memorabilia cards and sticker autographs are forgettable.

THE “THREE PIECE PUZZLE SET” from panini timeless treasures is NOT a PUZZLE PANEL. IT’S FALSE ADVERTISING since they don’t interlock. ALL SIDES ARE CONCAVE so they DON’T interlock in any way. I WOULDN’T HAVE SPENT 45$ for my LeBron bosh dwyane panel set if I knew this. I have a Jordan triumvirate panel set and Kobe triumvirate panel set and they interlock. They are legit “puzzle” panels. This 2012-13, timeless treasures panel set can NOT call itself PUZZLE.
