2012-13 Panini Basketball is the first flagship hardcourt set for the company since they landed the exclusive NBA license in 2009-10. With a large base set and moderate price point, the release targets set collectors and those looking for comprehensive lists from their favorite players and teams.
2012-13 Panini Basketball hobby boxes have 24 packs of ten cards. Besides a ton of base cards, each delivers two autographs and 12 inserts.
A total of 300 cards make up the base set. Another 60 autographed rookie cards round out the main set's checklist. This should allow for larger-than-normal team sets and give some second-tier players a chance to appear in a release. Base cards have a Knights of the Round parallel. These die-cut cards fall approximately seven per box.
Besides the autographed rookie cards, 2012-13 Panini Basketball has five autograph insert sets. Spokesman Signatures include dual- and triple-signed cards from the likes of Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Blake Griffin. Rated Rookie Autographs are signed one jersey material and have a manufactured patch of the iconic rookie logo. Hall of Fame Signatures focuses on basketball's legends.
2012-13 Panini Basketball also has several basic insert sets. All-Panini is a large 100-card set of the game's best. All are numbered to 25. Other inserts include Spirit of the Game, Matching Numbers and Heroes of the Hall. Even the Panini logo gets in on the action. The Knight has a special card that has Knights of the Round (one per case) Black Knight (#/10) parallels.

2012-13 Panini Basketball Product Review

Good: Base card are colorful and match team colors. Very affordable product. Two autographs per box. Insert cards are plentiful. 100 total rookies, which includes both the 2011 and 2012 NBA Draft Classes.
Bad: Knight parallel cards are hard to spot at first. Some insert cards contain black and white photography. Rookie autographs feature stickers. Redemption cards remain an issue.
The Bottom Line: 2012-13 Panini Basketball is an affordable low-end product. Don't let the price tag for this product fool you. The end results can be very rewarding with the checklist of rookies, Hall of Fame players, and superstars. This is also a great entry-level product for kids or new collectors.
Card Design: 4.0/5.0
The base cards have a smooth card surface which is great for through-the-mail autograph requests. The card design is simple and the background of each card matches the player's team colors. The base set includes Knight and Black Knight parallels. The parallels are distinguished from regular base cards by the Panini Knight's Lance logo on the bottom of the card.
Insert cards are plentiful, with at least one inserted in each pack. Heroes of the Hall pays tribute to 25 different NBA Hall of Fame players. Matching Numbers features two players that share the same jersey number. Given that the product is not a throwback, the black and white images used for this insert do not work as well. Spirit of the Game focuses on some of the top young rising stars in the NBA. All-Panini is one of the best insert cards. The set captures 100 players in a foil background and these cards look great in-person. Although the design for the base rookie autographs looks nice, they contain a sticker autograph. In a low-end product, this is not surprising but still disappointing.

The base set has 300 cards, which includes 100 rookies. Similar to the Hoops product from the last two years, this product boast a huge checklist, which means every team is well represented. If you are team collector searching for a more complete roster offering, this is the product to get since it has many players that are not normally included in current products. The autograph checklist contains such major names as Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and more.
Value: 3.5/5.0
With two guaranteed two autographs per box along with a ton of inserts, there is a not a lot of risk involved for this low-end product. The worst case scenario is that you get two unknown rookie autographs and there is always a chance that you could pull a big-name player.
The Fun Factor: 3.0/5.0
2012-13 Panini Basketball is a fun low-end product. Expectations are not very high, but the product is an enjoyable break. Quality control might be an issue with this product, so make sure you get two autographs in each hobby box.

I’ve broken two hobby boxes and have been pleased with both. The base design is simple but attractive. I agree that the inserts aren’t anything special and this is the box’s biggest disappointment. I pulled a Jimmy Butler AU and a Terrence Ross rated RC between the two boxes I purchased. If you buy it now for the lower price, a box is completely worth it.
