2011-12 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection has seen some impressive action on the secondary market since its release. Within a couple of weeks, five cards saw four-figure sales. Leading the way are one-of-one autographed NHL shield cards. They come from a pair of sets: Ultimate Autographed Rookies Shield cards and Ultimate Signature Logos.
Topping all early 2011-12 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Hockey sales on eBay was an Ultimate Autographed Rookies Shield of Gabriel Landeskog. The redemption card featuring the Calder Trophy winner closed at $4,000. Up next was a Mark Scheifele from the same set, which sold for $3,000. Other Ultimate Autographed Rookie Shields among the top ten early sales include Mika Zibanejad ($2,000) and Raphael Diaz ($650).
Although not reaching quite the same heights as the rookie logos, the Ultimate Signature Logos are still extremely hot. A Ray Bourque was purchased for $1,000. Not far behind was an Eric Lindros redemption, which sold for $950. Others in the top ten include Erik Karlsson ($860 - redemption) and Thomas Vanek ($655.32).
A couple of months ago, Upper Deck reminded collectors that Sidney Crosby is elusive when it comes to multi-signed cards. So when they show up, they command a premium. Case in point, a redemption for an Ultimate Dual Auto Patches that pairs Crosby with Mario Lemieux was snatched up for $1,500.
Wayne Gretzky continues to show his hobby clout. His 1997 Legends Signatures card sold for $676.66. Not surprisingly, his autograph is one of the toughest to find in the set.
