The Walking Dead Autographs Come to Life
One of the most anticipated entertainment card releases to close out 2011 is The Walking Dead from Cryptozoic Entertainment. With the December 13th release date approaching, The Walking Dead autographs have finally been announced.
Leading the way are Jon Bernthal and Michael Rooker. Bernthal plays Shane, one of the leaders of the zombie apocalypse survivors. Prior to The Walking Dead, Bernthal appeared in World Trade Center and the HBO mini-series, The Pacific. Rooker is a Hollywood veteran, having roles in Cliffhanger, JFK and Days of Thunder. Baseball fans will likely also recognize Rooker from Eight Men Out.
The Walking Dead autographs checklist is rounded out by a mix of key cast members. The main names that are missing are Andrew Lincoln (Ben Grimes), Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori Grimes) and Laurie Holden (Andrea).
What is interesting about Cryptozoic's approach with these autographs is that each signer has two different cards. So with nine confirmed actors signing, there's 18 cards in the autograph set. For completists going after master sets, this might seem like an annoyance as they'll have to track down twice as many autographs. However, for more casual collectors and those just looking for an autograph, this could be a good thing. Rather than having stacks of the same card, Crytozoic has essentially cut the production run of individual cards in half. Yet prices shouldn't get too extreme as the total number of Walking Dead autographs doesn't change.
As a company policy, Cryptozoic doesn't announce specific autograph subjects until they have the cards in hand. Although it may leave dealers and collectors guessing until close to the release date, it prevents the need for redemptions and doesn't lead to false promises. The company is still leaving hints that they're hoping for at least one, if not two, more signers before the cards release.
