Top-Selling 2011-12 SP Game Used Hockey Cards
Who says game-used cards are dead? It's patches, not ink, that dominate the top 10 opening week eBay sales for 2011-12 SP Game Used Hockey.
Living up to its name, the set is filled with all sorts of memorabilia combinations. The most popular appear to be the Authentic Fabrics multi-player cards. In fact, patch versions of these inserts hold the top four overall sales so far.
A 2011-12 SP Game Used Hockey Authentics Seven Patch with Wayne Gretzky, Ray Bourque, Brett Hull, Joe Sakic and three others led all sales, going for $800. Numbered to three, the card has seven patches, but none are huge like some may expect from a card commanding such a huge sum. And while all the players on the card are Hall of Famers, they're only loosely connected with a theme of 'shots.' A non-patch version of the card numbered to 6 was also in the top ten, selling for $365.
Other top-selling Authentics Fabrics patch cards include two highlighting first overall picks and one that celebrates the current rivalry between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals.
Just four cards in the top ten sellers have autographs. The highest such sale belongs to a dual autographed jersey card with Alexander Ovechkin and Steven Stamkos. Numbered to 5, the Dual Inked Sweaters card netted $450.

My apologies. It was in fact Upper Deck who referred to the cards as, “Monster Hits”. They linked to this article from their FB page and I thought it was one and the same. Still, TERRIBLE return on cost per item. Not worth even an attempt.
