Midas Touch: Top Selling 2011-12 Panini Gold Standard Basketball Cards

Midas Touch: Top Selling 2011-12 Panini Gold Standard Basketball Cards

As you scroll through the list of top online 2011-12 Panini Gold Standard Basketball sales, things may feel a little strange. While there are tons of nice cards to see, the A-list superstars are few. Autographs are even rarer. In fact, the only ink you're going to find on the list is from partial notes written on jersey tags.

Dominating the set's top early sales are 2011-12 Panini Gold Standard Basketball Bullion Brand cards. Numbered to 2, each of the memorabilia cards has a massive logo swatch. Of the top 10 eBay sales through August 1, 2012, half were Bullion Brand cards. Leading them all was a Kevin Garnett, which sold for $750. It was followed by Tim Duncan ($600), Stephen Curry ($455) and Gordon Hayward ($310.02).

And as hot as the Bullion Brand cards are, they didn't represent the top overall sale. The most valuable 2011-12 Panini Gold Standard card thus far isn't Kobe Bryant or LeBron James. It's Deron Williams. A one-of-one redemption for his Solid Gold card hit four figures, selling for $1,100. The only other card of the top ten sales not to have a memorabilia swatch was a one-of-one Anfernee Hardaway Black Gold parallel.

Low-numbered memorabilia cards from some of the NBA's all-time greats also showed well. A one-of-one 14K Memorabilia patch card of 60s Celtics great Bailey Howell went for $450. A 24K Memorabilia Kobe Bryant patch card numbered 25/25 closed at $350.

Going from all-time greats to someone who has yet to play a minute in the NBA comes a pair of Anthony Davis redemptions. Good for cards of the first overall pick, one reached $480 while a second sold for $399.

While 2011-12 Panini Gold Standard Basketball sales aren't breaking records, the set does offer a ton of variety. Lots of cards have been selling in the $150 to $250 range. Like any high-end box, there is a certain level of risk. However, the set has a ton of low-numbered cards and deep checklists to help offset some of that.
