Toronto Maple Leafs Collecting and Fan Guide
Overview
The Toronto Maple Leafs are the NHL's most valuable franchise with an estimated net valuation of over $1 billion. As a founding member of the league, the Maple Leafs and their primary rival, the Montreal Canadiens, are the pride of Canadian hockey. The organization has won 13 Stanley Cups, which is the second-most in NHL history. However, the team's rabid fan base has been denied The Cup since their last victory in 1967. This has not deterred collectors and the team remains a notable collecting hub.
The early years of the team were highly successful. The Maple Leafs won Stanley Cup championships in every decade of their existence, starting in 1918, through the 1960s. The club has possessed a wealth of talent with numerous Hall of Fame players and fan favorites to their credit. From the "Kid Line" of Busher Jackson, Joe Primeau and Charlie Conacher in the 1930s, to the dynasty teams of the 1960s, the list of star power the Leafs have seen is truly remarkable.
The 1960s saw the team win four Stanley Cups, including three consecutively between 1962 and 1964. They would add one more in 1967. During those years, the team's core included Frank Mahovlich, Red Kelly, Johnny Bower, Dave Keon, Andy Bathgate, and Tim Horton.
Despite not winning a Stanley Cup in nearly 50 years, the team has been consistently laden with star power. Some of the team's most recent all-time greats include Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour, Tie Domi, Felix Potvin, Dave Andreychuk, Mats Sundin, and Curtis Joseph, to name a few. The team is now rebuilding around established stars Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel. They also have drafted well in recent years, acquiring a bevy of young prospects, and look to be back on the path to greatness.
