Texas Rangers Collecting and Fan Guide
Overview
Since joining the league in 1961, the Texas Rangers have been home to some of the game's greatest players despite struggling to achieve postseason success. With players like Ivan Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez and Michael Young all making their rookie debut as part of the organization, there are numerous opportunities for the player, team and rookie card collectors.
In addition to the club's homegrown talent, the Rangers have played host to several Hall of Fame-worthy players via free agency, including Nolan Ryan, Alex Rodriguez, Fergie Jenkins and Rafael Palmeiro, to name a few.
While the franchise's roots date back to 1961 when they were the Washington Senators, the Rangers officially took up residence in Arlington, Texas in 1971. It took 25 years for the team to win their first division title in 1996. Even without a World Series win in their history, the team has developed a loyal fan base.
In recent years, the Rangers have captured two American League pennants. While the elusive World Series title has yet to come to fruition, the team ownership, led by former Ranger and Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, has shown their commitment to winning. Management continues to retool, reload and rebuild, adding and developing key players, most notably, the acquisition of Japanese import Yu Darvish.
