Overview
The San Jose Sharks entered the league in 1991 and have provided fans and collectors with an entertaining, talent-laden roster. Despite not having the longevity of other teams in the league, the team still provides collectors with plenty of collecting opportunities.
While the team has not yet won a Stanley Cup, they have been very competitive, winning six division titles and a President's Trophy for most points in the regular season. In 1997, the Sharks selected Patrick Marleau with the 2nd overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. He has been the face of the franchise and the team's all-time top player.
Years later in 2005, the Sharks acquired Joe Thornton. Thornton is one of the premier players in the league and has been a cornerstone of the team's success over the last several years.
In recent years, the franchise has added a mix of hot prospects and emerging stars, providing the current team a mix of seasoned veterans and youthful talent. That group of young guns is led by Tomas Hertl, who caught fire last year from a collecting standpoint after an early season highlight reel goal.
