Dallas Stars Collecting and Fan Guide

Dallas Stars

Franchise Founded: 1967
Championships: 1
Team Collectibility Rating: 7.0

Although they reside in an atypical market for hockey, the Dallas Stars have seen some success in Texas. With one Stanley Cup win and former greats like Mike Modano, Ed Belfour and Joe Nieuwendyk, the Dallas Stars have plenty of reasons for collectors take a look.

The Dallas Stars were originally founded in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars. The team relocated to the Dallas market in 1993. They dropped the "North" in their name, becoming simply the "Stars." The franchise has a long tradition of being a gritty and tough hockey team. The antagonistic style of play which became their hallmark in the 1970's earned them a not-so-nice reputation but has resulted in a passionate and devoted fan base. The organization had a successful first season, coming one game short of reaching the Stanley Cup Final.

As both the North Stars and Stars, the franchise has won four conference championships. The team earned its first Stanley Cup title in 1999. That team was led by top-notch veterans earning their first Cup, including Mike Modano, Brett Hull and Ed Belfour.

Despite repeated trips to the playoffs, the Stars have failed to capture another title. The organization has a commitment to winning and has not been shy about spending money to acquire key free agent talent. They have also proven very adept in making trades and developing homegrown talent through the draft.

Currently the Stars are built around a solid core of young talent that includes Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Valeri Nichushkin. With this group in place, the future is bright for the team and their fans.

  1. I have a new never worn Stars jersey autographed by the 2010 Dallas prospects. I live in Traverse City, MI and the city hosts a training camp every year. I’d like to find a buyer but have no idea what it’s worth.
