Cleveland Indians Collecting and Fan Guide
Overview
As a result of their long history and tradition in the league, the Indians have been home to numerous Hall of Fame players. This has allowed plenty of opportunities for collectors to pursue individual player collections, specific team years or simply the team as a whole.
The Cleveland Indians organization dates back to 1894 and they have been a continuously-operating MLB franchise since 1901. With their last title win coming in 1948, the Indians are currently in the midst of the longest title drought in Major League Baseball. However, that hasn't kept them from being a competitive force through the years and providing their fans just enough hope that, "next year is the year."
In the early years of the organization, Hall of Fame legend Nap Lajoie was the face of the franchise. His hitting prowess was on par with other greats of his era and provided the fans of Cleveland the city's first bonafide superstar. When Shoeless Joe Jackson joined the team in 1910, it gave the Indians one of the most potent one-two punches in baseball history. Unfortunately, the team's pitching kept them from being successful despite their Hall of Fame lineup.
The Indians have had numerous players that have played for the franchise for the majority of their careers. No one player exemplifies this better than Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller. He was a team hero and although his career numbers on their own are deserving of his place in the Hall of Fame, there is no telling what might have been had Feller not lost three years, during his prime, to military service in World War II.
The collecting opportunities provided by the Cleveland Indians are numerous and transcend generations. Each era of Indians' baseball has had their share of star power. In the present day, the organizationis going through a youth movement with an influx of talented players anchored by the likes of Jason Kipnis. In addition, the organization has two of the top prospects in all of baseball in Clint Frazier and Francisco Lindor. With veteran manager Terry Francona on the bench, the future looks bright for the Indians, their fans and collectors.
