Atlanta Braves Collecting and Fan Guide

Atlanta Braves

Franchise Founded: 1871
Championships: 3
Team Collectibility Rating: 8.0

As a popular team in a geographic region that is largely devoid of Major League options, the Atlanta Braves have built a huge fan base and are a collecting favorite, especially across the Southeast. With three World Series titles and iconic names like Hank Aaron, Warren Spahn and Eddie Matthews, the franchise boasts a good variety of collecting options from the many eras of baseball history.

The Atlanta Braves organization is one of the charter members of baseball's National League and dates back to 1871. The team got their start as the Boston Red Stockings before eventually changing their moniker to the Braves. The team moved to Milwaukee in 1953 before finally settling in Atlanta in 1966.

Throughout their history, the Braves franchise has showcased some of the greatest players in MLB history. Most notable of all these players is the legendary Hank Aaron. His pursuit and eventual breaking of the all-time home run record was a spectacle that brought much attention to the franchise.

While the organization has had brief periods of success, the 1990s was a decade that saw the club at their peak, racking up five National League pennants and one World Series title. Those teams were highlighted by a pitching staff that included a total of six Cy Young Award winners in the decade, including Greg Maddux (3), Tom Glavine (2) and John Smoltz (1).

The Braves were home to one of the last players in the game to play an entire 15-plus year career with the same team in Chipper Jones. A face of the franchise, Jones was a staple in the Braves' lineup from 1993 - 2012. The eight time All-Star won the league MVP in 1999 and was a fan favorite throughout his career.

The organization has been in a rebuilding mode in recent years. They have been developing young, homegrown talent in Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman, along with several up-and-coming pitchers. The NL East has been up for grabs in recent years and the Braves are poised for a return to postseason dominance.

  1. I have a Tom Glavine 1996 jersey autographed by 34 players and coaches including Glavine, Jones, Smoltz, Maddox and Cox. I’m interested in selling it. Can you give me an idea what I could get?
