Sochi Signatures: 2014 Topps US Olympic Team Autographs Guide

Collectors don't have a lot of options when it comes to trading cards for the Winter Olympics. Most modern cards come in things like Allen & Ginter, Upper Deck Goodwin Champions and sets that focus on several sports other than the Olympics. Following up on its summer set from 2012, 2014 Topps US Olympic Team and Hopefuls offers the most in-depth modern set to focus on winter sports. This includes autographs from more than 60 current and past American athletes.

One of the release's main draws are autographs. These fall under a pair of banners. The first is essentially a partial parallel of the main set. These 50 cards focus on current athletes and use sticker autographs. Heading into the Olympics, some of the most popular cards are Gracie Gold, Hilary Knight, Shani Davis, Lolo Jones and Ashley Wagner. Lindsey Vonn is also fetching strong amounts, although an injury is keeping her out of the Sochi games. Besides a basic version, base autographs have Bronze (#/50), Silver (#/30), Gold (#/15) and Gold Rainbow (1/1) parallels.

Past American standouts get their own Champions Autographs set. Featuring the likes of Nancy Kerrigan, Kristi Yamaguchi and Miracle on Ice teammates Jim Craig and Mike Eruzione, the 11-card set is highlighted by on-card signatures.

  1. There are a few autographs and relics in the 2014 Winter Olympic set which I would like to get. Hopefully the prices on EBay and the secondary market will come down on boxes and singles some time after the Olympics are over. It would be fun to crack a few hobby boxes in search of a Rainbow foil 1/1 auto or a scarce relic which I would actually want to keep. On the other hand, there are many athletes and sports in this set which I have little interest in.
