Overview
Terrelle Pryor is certainly no secret, but because he has spent the majority of his time on the bench, he has mostly been under the collecting radar and Terrelle Pryor cards have have not been a hot commodity. Now the official starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, this dual threat athlete has once again caught the attention of collectors and card values are building for the young gunslinger.
Terrelle Pryor attended Ohio State University and he saw immediate success on the field. It all seemed to be lining up for Pryor after a terrific Sophomore year that saw him lead the Buckeyes to a Rose Bowl win where Pryor was named the MVP. The team was widely expected to compete for a national title in 2011 and then he would head on to the NFL.
Things changed quickly for Terrelle Pryor when it was revealed that he and several other players had received improper benefits and would be suspended five games to start the year. The controversy also eventually resulted in the resignation of head coach, Jim Tressel. Pryor would ultimately decide to withdraw from OSU. Although the 2011 NFL Draft had already taken place, Pryor was eligible for the NFL Supplemental Draft and the Oakland Raiders selected him in the third round.
The NFL upheld his college suspension, so Terrelle Pryor was not permitted to play in the first five games of the 2011 NFL season. Still acclimating to the NFL game, Pryor saw little playing time over the 2011 and 2012 seasons. However, starting quarterback, Carson Plamer, was traded before the 2013 season began and the opportunity was there for Pryor to compete for the starting spot. He would beat out Matt Flynn and a few rookies to claim the first string role.
Although he is still working on his consistency, Pryor has shown considerable talent and collectors are re-discovering his rookie offerings. Due to his relatively late inclusion in the 2011 season, Pryor was largely absent from Topps products. Therefore, the majority of the official rookie Terrelle Pryor cards are found in Panini products.
