Scottie Pippen Basketball Cards and Autograph Memorabilia Guide

Scottie Pippen

Date of Birth: 9/25/1965

Rookie Card Year: 1988-89

Investment Rating: 8.0

Overview

Scottie Pippen cards and memorabilia may not be as valuable as his teammate Michael Jordan but he was a key piece to the Chicago Bulls dynasty that dominated the NBA in the 1990s. Pippen was the ying to Jordan's yang. The dynamic duo created one of the best one-touch punches in the history of basketball, leading the Chicago Bulls to six NBA Championships.

Scottie Pippen's sole rookie card is in 1988-89 Fleer Basketball. It's ironic that one of the NBA's Top 50 Players has a rookie card that is an uncorrected error. Pippen's name is misspelled on the card back. Produced at the height of the Junk Wax Era, high-grade samples can still command significant cash on the secondary market.

Selected as the fifth overall pick in the 1987 NBA Draft out of Central Arkansas, Pippen would go on to become a seven-time All-Star and an amazing defensive player. He led the league in steals in 1995 and was named to the All-Defensive Team ten times.

The 1988-89 Fleer Scottie Pippen rookie card can be found for under $20 ungraded. Once graded, PSA copies in the 9 to 10 range can command several hundred dollars. As mentioned previously, Pippen's name is misspelled on the card's reverse as "Pippin." The nicely designed card incorporates the team color scheme well and shows Pippen making an easy lay-up.

The first Scottie Pippen autographs come from the 1992-93 Fleer Ultra Set as part of a ten-card Career Highlights insert set. Each of the ten cards has an autographed version that has an announced print run of 2,000 each. Those print runs may be high by today's standards, but the cards are tough to find today.
