Overview
Long considered among the best point guards in the league, a serious injury along with a complete rebuild of the Boston Celtics had many anticipating a trade for Rajon Rondo. It took longer than expected to materialize, but Rajon Rondo is now a member of the Dallas Mavericks and he makes them a legit contender for the title. This will undoubtedly boost interest in his cards in the short term and collectors should keep an eye on his progress in Dallas.
After a stellar high school career, the highly-decorated Rajon Rondo decided to attend the University of Kentucky to play for the Wildcats and Tubby Smith. Although UK did not enjoy deep NCAA tournament success with Rondo at point guard, he still put up solid numbers during his two seasons with the team. Rondo further boosted his profile following his sophomore season, when he won a gold medal with the USA Men's Under-21 World Championship Team.
Rajon Rondo was the first point guard taken in the 2006 NBA draft. Selected by Phoenix with the 21st pick, he was soon traded to Boston. After a rookie season with limited minutes, Rondo was the full-time starter in 2007-08. The Boston Celtics would win the NBA title that season. Along with Rondo, the Celtics were basically an All-Star team, featuring Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. However, the group would never win another title together.
The 2012-13 season was particularly rough for the Celtics as Ray Allen left before the season started and Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and head coach, Doc Rivers, left in the offseason. Midway thorough the season, Rondo tore his ACL and missed nearly a year of basketball before returning to the court in January of 2014.
Although Rondo was back to himself on the court quickly, the Celtics were not a good team and the rumors of a trade grew louder every day. Finally in December of 2014, the Celtics sent Rondo to Dallas as part of a trade involving three players and draft picks. Already one of the stronger teams in the Western Conference, Rondo further bolsters a squad that has Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons, Tyson Chandler and Monta Ellis.

With a low print run, on-card signature and small patch, Exquisite Collection is the top Rajon Rookie card for obvious reasons. The one thing that is appears a little off is the font placement and sizing. The "Exquisite Rookie" heading appears too big for the card and the random placement of "Celtics" and "2006-07" seems questionable. Regardless, this is the best card to look for when assembling a high-end Rajon Rondo collection.

An ornate look and horizontal layout make this Ultimate Collection card a clear favorite for collectors. The silver foil pairs well with the vivid green and the on-card signature is always a collector preference. The slightly higher print run will keep prices down.
2006-07 SP Authentic Rajon Rondo RC #111 Autograph #/999
While it is more plain than other SP Authentic rookie designs, the appealing layout and on-card signature make it a great autographed rookie card. The high print run of 999 allows collectors to add it to their collection without breaking the bank.
