Drew Brees

Date of Birth: 1/15/1979
Rookie Card Year: 2001
Investment Rating: 7.0

Drew Brees cards have been on a roller-coaster ride throughout his career. The quarterback is a perfect example of a solid college player who was initially dismissed by many NFL teams and collectors and still went on to great success. As a result, Drew Brees cards continue to see strong interest.

Concerns about his height resulted in Brees slipping to the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft, where he was selected by the San Diego Chargers. Despite winning the starting job early in his career and even leading the Chargers deep into the playoffs, Brees was allowed to leave after he sustained an injury and San Diego drafted Philip Rivers. Soon after, Brees signed on with the New Orleans Saints and immediately brought them on a deep playoff run. Since them, Brees has put up great numbers with the Saints and helped bring the team's first title following the 2009 season.

Baffling even his strongest critics, Brees has continually raised the benchmark for quarterback production and has helped turn around the losing culture that persisted throughout the Saints' existence.

Based on his many successes and the far-reaching popularity of the New Orleans Saints, it would be easy to assume that Drew Brees cards are one of the top options for collectors. Although Drew Brees card values have steadily increased over the years, he is still undervalued given his accomplishments and consistent production.

With Brees breaking the all-time single season record for passing yards and closing in on more passing records, there is still some room for growth if he can remain healthy and keep winning games. If that translates into a second Super Bowl title for the Saints, Drew Brees card and memorabilia values will explode.

Drew Brees has nearly 70 rookie cards falling across all price ranges. The top three Drew Brees cards are detailed below.

2001 Playoff Contenders Drew Brees RC #124 Autograph, Print Run of 500

Despite the higher print run, the 2001 Playoff Contenders Drew Brees rookie card has emerged as the collector favorite. The card is not serially numbered but the print run was announced to be limited to 500 autographed cards for Brees. The sticker autograph is not ideal but as one of only a handful of autographed Drew Brees rookie cards, it is easy to overlook in this instance. The image of Brees in a Chargers uniform is admittedly bizarre considering how synonymous he has become with New Orleans.

2001 SPx Drew Brees RC #101 Autographed Jersey, Each #/250

SPx released two different rookie cards for Brees in 2001 and both are top draws for collectors. Each 2001 SPx Drew Brees rookie card is numbered to 250 and features a small jersey piece and cut autograph. The cards have similar designs but are easy to tell apart. On one, Brees is on the left side of the card, holding the football out. The other has Brees on the right side of the card with  somewhat awkward grin, holding the ball with both hands. The background colors are another way to differentiate the two.

2001 Crown Royale Drew Brees RC #150 Autograph #/250

The 2001 Crown Royale Drew Brees card features the iconic design of the product, which looks like an actual crown. Although the card shows Brees in his college jersey, it receives bonus points for having an on-card autograph. It is also numbered to 250. Given the die-cut design, they are difficult to find in mint condition.

  1. I have five trading cards that drew signed for me at his house! Two of them he signed with a 22k gold pin. Two of them he told me would be good someday. He is friend of family and I was wondering if they had any worth. Thanks
Plus I have thousands of old trading cards and was wanting to know where do we take them for sale.

  2. I have a 2007 Drew Brees upper deck dimond collection #8 gold & siilver. I am trying to find out how much they would be worth
