Date of Birth: 6/17/1948
Rookie Card Year: 1971
Investment Rating: 6.0
Overview
Dave Concepcion was more than your prototypical, quality fielding, shortstop. He had some pop in his bat that allowed him to be a consistent and reliable hitter. Playing for the Cincinnati Reds and the Big Red Machine, Dave Concepcion cards and autographed memorabilia are revered still today.
Concepcion has two rookie cards, 1971 Topps Baseball and 1971 O-Pee-Chee Baseball. Interesting to note, is that he also has a card in the very rare 1967 Topps Venezuela set as well. However, it's not considered a traditional rookie card. The Cincinnati Reds also included a Concepcion card in their 1971 team set.
The first certified Dave Concepcion autographs can be found in 2000 Fleer Greats of the Game and 2000 Upper Deck Century Legends. Upper Deck also included his first memorabilia card in Century Legends. Today, Concepcion autograph cards are fairly common as he's in many other sets.
Dave Concepcion's autographed memorabilia has maintained its value through the years. He does, occasionally, participate in organized signing events. Authentic signed jerseys and bats can be difficult to find. Items related to the Reds dynasty of the 1970s carry a premium.
Dave Concepcion Rookie Card Checklist
1971 Topps Dave Concepcion RC #14
The 1971 Topps Baseball card set is notorious for being extremely condition sensitive. Not surprising given the card's black borders which are highly susceptible to edge and corner wear. In recent years, vintage collectors have found a renewed appreciation for the set. Many have taken on the challenge of assembling it in high-grade. As a result, professionally graded cards in top condition sell for a big premium. Concepcion's card is one of the key cards of the set. It has the added difficulty of being found with good centering.

The front of the cards is identical to the Topps card. The key difference between the two is the bilingual back.
