Adam Oates

Date of Birth: 8/27/1962
Rookie Card Year: 1987-88
Investment Rating: 6.0

Overview

As an elite NHL center and dynamic playmaker, Adam Oates cards and autographed memorabilia have a loyal following of fans and collectors. Best known as Brett Hull's teammate in St. Louis, Oates wound up playing for seven teams during his 19-year career. As a result, his hockey cards and autographed memorabilia are collected by a wide range of fans.

Adam Oates has two rookie cards. One is from 1987-88 O-Pee-Chee. The other from 1987-88 Topps Hockey. The O-Pee-Chee issue is the one most popular with collectors.

His first certified autograph card is from the 1993-94 Fleer Ultra set. It is not serial numbered and the exact print run is unknown.

Topps, Pacific and Be A Player, all produced Adam Oates game-used memorabilia cards in various 2000-01 products. His most valuable card from that year is the very rare 2000-01 Be A Player Signature Series Jersey Autograph card. Only 10 copies exist.

Adam Oates autographed memorabilia has steady demand. He has remained involved in the NHL's coaching ranks. As a result, his accessibility to fans means an ample supply of signed material.

The O-Pee-Chee card uses the same photograph of Oates as the Topps card. The logo and bilingual back are the only differences. They even have the same card number. This was typical for the era. Although one of the key cards in the set, it can be found for reasonable amounts today.

The Topps version of Oates' rookie card is not as popular as the O-Pee-Chee release despite essentially being the same card. This is standard for most Topps hockey sets from the 1980s.
