Jason Collins Cards – What’s Next?
Overview
Jason Collins, a 12-year veteran of the NBA, made history by announcing that he's gay. Collins is the first active male player in any of the four professional sports leagues in the United States to acknowledge this publicly.
Speculation has long been building around when the first player would step forward as being openly gay. The early response from fans, fellow athletes, and teammates has been very positive. Based on his lack of productivity on the court, it's doubtful that Jason Collins cards will gain huge values. However, his place in history is cemented. To many, Collins is a role model and for that there will likely be some interest for the time being.
Drafted by the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft, Collins was immediately traded to the New Jersey Nets, where he spent the bulk of his career. The former Stanford Cardinal has played with six different teams, most recently with the Washington Wizards. Although he is currently a free agent, he hopes to continue his professional basketball career. As a journeyman player who has not seen a lot of individual success, Collins does not have a lot of cards available. The following are the top Jason Collins rookie cards.
