2021 Topps Opening Day Baseball Variations Checklist Gallery
Although slightly easier to pull compared to last year, the 2021 Topps Opening Day Baseball variations are still very elusive.
The super short prints (SSP) highlight top MLB stars and rookies with secondary images from the base set.
2021 Topps Opening Day Variations Set Details
Pulling 30 names from the main 2021 Topps Opening Day Baseball checklist, the rare photo swaps average 1:531 packs overall. This means that you can find one in every 15 boxes or so. In a few cases, the variation replaces a different subject in the base set. These are normally players from the same team.
Obviously, the SSP variations are quite rare. So, too, are the Dugout Peeks (1:1,595) and Walk This Way (1:321) inserts. While the tough inserts also utilize the base design, the insert title is printed on the front and the numbering is not the same as the base cards. Therefore, the limited inserts are not considered variations.
There are signed versions for half of the variation lineup, as well, falling 1:26,600 packs.

Opening Day is such an odd set. Cheap smattering of Series 1/2 Topps cards with Mascots and other base inserts. Very much a kid set. On the other hand there are incredibly rare and obscure SP/SSP inserts not typical of a product marketed for the younger crowd.
Say what you want about it, I could see the rare stuff hold some real value long term esp. since it mimics the Topps flagship design and the SPs are just so hard to find outside of the current season.
