Back for more SPGU action on the ice, 2021-22 SP Game Used Hockey piles on the memorabilia. The Upper Deck NHL set is also known for the Authentic Rookies line.
One difference is found in the expected box output. The 2020-21 edition averaged four hits (autographs and/or relics) per box. In 2021-22, each box should have one autograph or premium relic along with three cards that can be relics and/or Purity inserts.

2021-22 SP Game Used Hockey Base / Authentic Rookies
Typical of many UD releases, 2021-22 SP Game Used Hockey is anchored by a multi-tiered base set that expands with multiple parallels, including jersey relics and autographs. The series includes base (#1-100), Authentic Legends (#101-120) and Authentic Rookies (#121-200) cards. Each true base card is limited to the player's jersey number.
While Burst was the main parallel style used for the base set last year, '21-22 moves to Fragment parallels.

In most cases, the final card in the base print run has an autograph. So, if a player wears the #97 jersey, such as Connor McDavid, his base card that is serial-numbered 97/97 would have an added signature.
As mentioned, all three subsets come in several different hit forms that can feature relics, autographs or auto relics.

2021-22 SP Game Used Hockey Inserts
Collectors can look for new inserts in 2021-22 SP Game Used Hockey, as well. This includes 2003-04 Retro Rookie (#/999) with a Gold (#/50) parallel and 2005-06 Retro Rookie (#/999), also with a Gold (#/25) parallel. While these are throwback designs, they aren't all specific to hockey.
The debuting Purity inserts combine with relics to average three per box. Utilizing a "unique tech design," the set offers veterans (1:7 packs), legends (1:12 packs) and rookies (1:12 packs). Each card also has Gold (#/150) and Platinum (#/35) editions.

Moving to the signed inserts, 2021-22 SP Game Used Hockey mainly features auto-relic cards. Many favorites are back, including Inked Rookie Sweaters Patch.
Another brand staple is the Draft Day Marks insert. These display manufactured nameplate letters that are hard-signed. Each player has their entire last name spelled out to form the full nameplate. For rookies, every letter has 35 copies, while veteran player letters are limited to 10 copies.
A new spin on this is the Stanley Cup Letterman Signatures (#/35) set. These cards celebrate former champions via signed manufactured letter patches.

Another favorite is Supreme Patches (#/15), boasting jumbo swatches from game-used gear. There are also rare Supreme Materials Variants.
On the manufactured front, options include Embroidered Draft Picks (1:9 packs), Embroidered in History (1:7 packs) and Embroidered in History Legends (1:17 packs). These generally honor a milestone or award with a commemorative patch created for this set. However, the Embroidered Draft Picks cards focus on the player's draft selection number instead.
