User Reviews

  1. Are the SSPs the image variations or are there regular base cards that are SSPs?

  2. Topps noted both Base Set Image Variations (with parallels) and Base Set Super Short Prints. No parallels were mentioned for the SSP cards.

  3. Say can you elaborate on the hanger exclusive “NBCD” chrome update previews? Basically, what is that?

  4. It’s a retail-exclusive insert set, meaning these are cards that only come in Hanger boxes.

  5. I really hope this set doesn’t turn into the way Bowman Is right now. If so, I will be skipping. I have a feeling it is going to be bought up by the sellers and resold at crazy prices. It is what it is but I hate to miss out. I usually spend about $2k a year. Now I am at about $200. Just can’t get the boxes at decent prices. No choice to move on or wait until next year or until it’s no longer fun. This year has been no fun.

  6. hi where can i find a checklist of all the available 2020 topps chrome cards?

  7. The checklist will be available when the set releases. This is not until August.

  8. Okay thanks. I have a dilemma then, I’m trying to figure out whether i should pre-order a jumbo box of topps chrome or not.. that means i have to just pre-order without knowing what cards will be available in the set?

  9. Correct. That’s how pre-orders work for cards. You are locking in a price before the checklist is known. Only you can decide if it’s worth the risk. With prices like they are across the collecting world, it can be better (for some) to just buy specific cards versus gambling on a box or two.

  10. Okay thanks, Trey. I come from the old days where this hobby was cheap and packs had bubble gum. I would like to start collecting again but as Don alluded, this hobby has been ruined by speculation and greed.

  11. this is not a $200+ per box product.
was able to confirm directly that (at least for 1 player) signed over 3000 cards for this set alone… we are now back in the junk wax era…
No Thanks .. just so not worth the price at this cost.

  12. luis Robert not in base? Or will it be like last year when Alonso, tatis jr, and Vlad were base sp’s (slighty smaller card and brighter stock?) Can’t imagine the person fueling the collecting not being in base set lol.

  13. Wow…another great product ruined by greed. I’m sure Houdini Collector bought most of it at this price for breaks. Junk wax era here we go. Just buy singles and let the market crash. Topps please turn up the presses you are missing out on Lots of money from fools.

  14. Again, Topps has negated one of the greatest players of the last 15+ years. Yadier Molina. Why?

  15. my bad trey, I see it now… didn’t realize how small his full name is compared to everyone else and went right over it lol

  16. First year without at least one Phillies RC auto to chase, so this’ll definitely be a cheap year for me (whew!). Cards look nice, though.

  17. too many $2 autos in this for such a big cost.
this is a sure money loser… as soon as Topps Chrome Black or A&G Chrome come out… your investment in this will be cut by 80%… I will stay away.

  18. This year’s product is an overpriced piece of garbage. $240 and $375 for boxes of Chrome are asanine. Run for the hills from this product. Save your money for National Treasures or another high product that is worth the price tag.

  19. This should not even be allowed to receive 1 star as it is completely diluted with unnecessary bogus refractors and pitchers. Sure pitchers are great, but they should not be more common than position players when it comes to Autographs. $4200 for a jumbo case with 23 pitcher Autos? I typically spend about 15-25k per year on cases… no more. Like another commenter said, this is no fun. Topps has become way too disconnected from its core audience and is only catering to breakers because it’s in their best financial interest, for now. People, quit encouraging Topps by buying their overpriced attempt at a money grab. I am, bye bye Topps!

  20. Purchased 3 jumbo boxes on release day, pulled a Kyle Lewis Purple refractor, Base Rookie Autograph and pulled Base Luis Robert and Rookie Orange Wave Refractor Auto to /25. Like the design this year, definitely a Winner

  21. Are the Update Preview cards for stores other than Target and Wal-Mart or a variant hanger available at both?

  22. I don’t know where they are found specifically. It was only mentioned as a Retail Hanger exclusive.

  23. This link makes it sound like the Update Preview cards are in blasters.

  24. Too many inserts than base set, chrome used to be a good product for collecting complete set.

  25. Like everyone else, the set is only as good as how much money I personally got from my boxes/packs.

If I pulled a money making card, 5 star set! If I struck out, then the only explanation is that the set is rigged and garbage — 1 star!!!

Rating a set based on the design and collectability is completely overrated. What losers rate sets like that anymore? Like who does that… people who actually care about the hobby? Pfft who cares about them? Topps certainly doesn’t, and neither do the poachers who raid Walmart and Target shelves the moment the product hits the floor.

So, since I am not some loser who rates sets based on their collectability and all that nonsense, I will rate it based upon the cards I have gotten in packs…

too bad I haven’t opened any packs because some people cannot afford packs in which the cards are $3 each. Thank you money chasers and poachers who don’t give a rats butt about baseball for ruining the hobby for everyone else. We appreciate it!

  26. In north houston, theres an older lady whos the merchandiser at targets. Im a vendor for other products, everytime shes there, an older guy shows up and buys up everything out of the delivery boxes. Nobody even has a chance. Smh. No chrome for u or u.

  27. Who has a shot to buy at targets when the merchandisers are selling to her friends right out of delivery boxes

  28. Such a joke, the Ebay poaching is getting out of hand. I’m tired of seeing the idiot going into Target and Walmart and taking all the cards directly from the stocker. It’s obnoxious, then you go on Ebay and a guy with a $8,000 countertop has all the cards spread out asking for double the price………And all the Lemmings are eating it up. I buy, to rip, I dont sell. Would be nice if us low income collectors had a chance to get a friggin pack of cards. I blame Topps just as much as I blame the retailers.

  29. Breakers and poachers are ruining the hobby. This product is way overpriced. Topps has to do better for the little guys like me.

  30. Like several have said above. This is a product I look forward to every year, as it is my favorite. I’m shut out of it this year due to GREED. Sorry, I refuse to pay 2x the price for a hobby box OR retail pack/box. GL selling to oblivious people who have too much money because of Covid hand out.

  31. Glad to see Chrome Reprint Relics are back after 19 years!!!! I hope they would make newer checklist next year, Nolan Ryan, Nolan Arenado, Yadier Molina, Derek Jeter reprint relics would be sweet. What happened to the Willie Mays reprint relic? It was on a sale sheet to promote this stuff and noticed the Red & Superfractor are PATCH.
They also made Don Mattingly in a jersey and a bat as well. Topps please quit making the same reprints of players please, Make a Mantle Rc patch reprint if anything….

  32. Just got back into collecting after about 20 years away and didn’t realize the inflation on these packs. I remembered when I thought $15 for a pack of Chrome was expensive lol. Bought a Jumbo box on release date for $450 which I guess seemed inline with everyone’s price gouging. But there’s a guy on Ebay selling for $385 a box and I grabbed 2 more, wish I waited a week and found this first. There’s a few left as of this post. https://fave.co/3gcx56P

  33. The Topps Chrome cards this year look great even though they are supposedly borderless , they do have borders to determine centering , you just have to know where those borders are . So many people are complaining about the card poachers and buying all the cards before they are ever put on display at the stores because of these corner – the – market buzzards . The answer to exterminate these vermin is to , Stop Feeding Them . Don’t bid on cards on eBay for more than their worth . Don’t purchase cards on eBay for more than their worth . It’s very simple fellow collectors , starve the vermin buzzards and they will die off ! I know that baseball card collecting is a form of an addiction but you can control yourself long enough to kill off these vermin buzzards if you just muster – up a little self control . If we can all do it together , the vermin buzzards will be forced to lower their prices . Use the same amount of energy that you use to complain about the vermin buzzards to boycott and starve the vermin buzzards . It will work if we all do it together . There is always power in numbers . Always has been and always will be . Jim

  34. This is always one of my favorite sets every year. I don’t have a card store near me, so I ordered a hobby and a jumbo box from my comic book distributor. I never saw the blaster boxes either at target or Walmart, and I was notified from my comic store that my order had been canceled, as there was no stock. It’s very obvious that speculators and breakers are grabbing everything and reselling at inflated prices. People like myself who want to rip and collect are left out in the cold unless we want to be extorted. Topps should increase the quantity or find a way to lock out the predators

I’ve preordered boxes of my favorite set, Allen & Ginter, and wait nervously to see if my order of these can’t be fulfilled either.

  35. Hey Trey , I have a question for you concerning the X – Fractor cards in this set . I read the product details and learned that the X – Fractor cards only come in the Monster Box . Do you know what the ratio of how many X – Fractor cards are in a Monster Box ? I can’t find information on where the Monster Boxes are available and how much a Monster Box costs roughly ? I would appreciate any info concerning the aforementioned questions that I asked . I figured it anybody knew these details , it would be you . Thanks for your help , Jim

  36. They are at Walmart for $39.98. Each box has two of the 5-card bonus packs with X-Fractors.

  37. I appreciate the information you gave me concerning the Monster Box and where to purchase them . I realize that everybody has their own definition of what qualifies as an SP card . I would really appreciate your opinion about the X – fractor and pink refractor cards . You just said that there are 2 , 5 card packs with X – fractor cards so those should qualify a SP card . The prism refractor card is seeded at 1 in every 6 packs so that should qualify as an SP card as well . The pink refractor card comes only in the value pack but since we have no idea of how many value packs are produced by the Topps Company , I’m guessing it’s a huge amount , I’m not sure that the pink refractor card would really qualify as an SP card ? I would appreciate your input on these parellel non numbered cards and which ones you truly feel are short printed and which ones are just labeled SP so the seller can justify a higher price for ? I would really appreciate your input on this matter . Since you are the most overall knowledgeable person I know concerning baseball cards to date that isn’t in a retirement home . Thanks , Jim

  38. It’s just a generic term. Nearly all parallels are technically short prints compared to base cards. You can easily check eBay to see how many there are available. It does seem like they are plentiful.
