Product Details

User Rating:

The prospect hunt begins anew in 2020 Bowman Baseball. The popular product offers the first Bowman cards and the first Bowman Chrome cards of the season.

Like in 2019, there is a standard Hobby box format with one autograph and the Jumbo HTA edition. The 2020 set follows the third and final 2019 Bowman product in the main line: 2019 Bowman Draft Baseball.

Available separately, Topps issued 2020 Bowman 1st Edition Baseball after 2020 Bowman Baseball was delayed due to the pandemic.

UPDATE (May 18): Although the official release date remains May 22, Topps notified distributors that only a portion of 2020 Bowman Baseball is ready to ship. As a result, not all of the product will go out on time and it could take up to three weeks before the set is fully released.

2020 Bowman Baseball Base / Chrome Parallels

While prospects run the show, there is still a base set with veterans and rookies. The paper set for 2020 Bowman Baseball offers 100 base cards and 150 prospects with several parallels.  This includes the retail Camo parallels for prospects that are only found in Value Packs.

2020 Bowman Baseball Inserts

Joining the base set and parallels in 2020 Bowman Baseball are multiple inserts. New for 2020, 1990 Bowman (1:8 packs) looks back at the '90 design 30 years later. Also new is Hidden Finds for under-the-radar draft picks and Spanning the Globe with home country flags for international talent.

2020 Bowman Baseball Cards 5

Returning inserts consist of Bowman Scouts' Top 100 (1:4 packs), Rookie of the Year Favorites (1:8 packs) and Talent Pipeline (1:12 packs).

Each insert set supplies Atomic Refractor (#/150), Green (#/99 - Retail), Gold Refractor (#/50), Orange Refractor (#/25 - Hobby), Red Refractor (#/5), and SuperFractor (1/1) parallels, as well.

2020 Bowman Baseball Autographs

And that takes us to the driving force of the 2020 Bowman Baseball checklist. Rising stars from the game fill out the Chrome Prospect Autograph lineup. Players designated as rookies for 2020 also are in play via the Chrome Rookie Autograph set, but the Refractor rainbow is not quite as large as the prospects.

  1. Did Topps basically just confirm that Bobby Witt Jr. won’t be in 2019 Bowman Draft?

  2. Well, this info came out on November 5, but if Witt’s 1st Bowman is in 2020 like the mock-up image shows, it would seem unlikely that he would also be in 2019 Bowman Draft.

  3. With hobby box’s approaching $200. It getting into the high end cards. Not good. And only one auto.

  4. Hobby is being driven by breakers and gamblers with deep pockets. If the latter leave, the hobby will implode. I doubt these price hikes are sustainable. Feels like a bubble right now.

  5. You can shove your overpriced boxes, Topps. Not paying 200 bucks or more for one autograph. Insane. I’ll just buy a decent autograph or two.

  6. Do you think there might be a delay on some of these baseball card release dates due to Coronavirus?

  7. It’s certainly possible. As always, as soon as we have updates, the info will be posted.

  8. Do you know when the checklist comes out? I know that they tell you in advance, but I just don’t remember when. Thanks!

  9. It’s usually a week before the release date, but that has not been the case lately.

  10. So what is going to happen with the checklist and all that since Bowman is now delayed?

  11. It means the checklist will be released at a later date.

  12. It’s now scheduled to release in May but nothing is set in stone.

  13. Yep. It’s May TBD and May 27 is the last Wednesday of the month.

  14. Approaching $200 for one mediocre autograph? Yikes!

  15. Did the release date get moved up to May 22nd? I thought it was the 27th.

  16. The 27th was never the official date, it was May TBD. Topps announced this week that the final release date was May 22.

  17. Nice! We reached $330 for a single hobby box. Not even a jumbo box. Yay! We did it! Thank you Case Breakers/Group Breakers for destroying the hobby! And Topps/Panini for openly supporting/promoting them on social media. Yay! Woohoo!

  18. At $350.00 a box and rising I guess I will buy my Jasson’s on Ebay. Same thing with Ohtani and then Wander and yada yads.

  19. Will the production issues make this Hobby-only or is there still plans for a retail release?

  20. Retail is still on as planned from what I have heard. Considering the Paper Prospects Autograph set is exclusive to Retail, that is likely a clear sign.

  21. Yep. I actually just saw that Retail is already showing up today.

  22. Is Walmart getting stocked with cards where you live? Here in Cleveland, it seems like only Target is getting shipments from Excel.

Also, not sure if you’re aware of this, but in the Great Lakes region, Meijer gets the same products that Walmart gets, including Walmart exclusives (I’ve seen Gallery and Playoff there – may have seen Parkhurst, too, can’t remember for sure).

  23. Already gone at TARGET/WALMART online, flippers taking the pics of their loot in the parking lot throwing them on Ebay for at least twice retail value. Case break/flippers and those who are the real problem supporting them are killing the hobby. Might as well just buy singles of who you want etc because you will pay more trying to “hit” them.

  24. Look at EBay do not buy from these people we must not let them win and they should be in dept with blasters if bowman there taking advantage of the pandemic to make a buck donate to charity with that money

  25. Not paying that price for a single auto of somebody that not ever make it much less be a star. Sorry Topps but you are not getting any of my money on this product. Not paying the price for Panini’s Mosaic basketball either!

  26. the regular hobby box cost as much as jumbo did last year? there should be a set price not what the breakers charge for it. will not be buying ripoff

  27. I agree with Matt, ronfir, leor and seeming most everyone else here. As someone that was working back into the hobby (Junk Wax Era kid) because of my son the breakers and the CRAZY pricing have completely turned me off. I do fairly well and still find the pricing (and continued escalations) to be beyond silly. Seems like the bubble of the Junk Era creeping back in.

  28. Like others have said we have to stop paying double on eBay for this stuff so it stops. Can’t find these anywhere and topps sells out so fast. It’s also a shame that other companies and hobby stores are now matching eBay prices instead of just selling them at suggested retail price. A bowman blaster should never go for 40 it doesn’t even have that much to offer.

  29. Already sold out in Cleveland Targets and Walmarts.

I’m thinking that we’ve reached the point where any prospect product is immediately “high-end”.

Then again, we may be at the point where every product is somewhat high-end due to rookies. Heck, we had an SSP in the Opening Day base set. Opening freaking Day!

  30. I’ve seen a Bowman blaster for $65 (including shipping) on ebay.

  31. Bowman cards are again a good looking product, hard to find & get. Too many inserts. Should be more MLB players than just 100 cards. $300 for a box, too expensive for a product that’s mostly minor leaguers who will not likely see the majors.

  32. Bowman has always been one of my favorites, but 350 dollars a box. Take your money and just invest in the singles you want and let the idiots who over pay suffer.Flippers and greed will destroy our hobby again.

  33. AVOID IT LIKE CORONA VIRUS!! THIS ***** BOWMAN IS NO GOOD AT THE PRICE YOUR PAYING FOR IT. NOT WOTH IT AT ALL. I WILL NOT WASTE MY MONEY ON THIS ANY MORE. TO DAM COSTLY! THERE IS MORE PRODUCTS OUT THERE MORE AFFORDABLE FOR US POOR PEOPLE…. NOT BUYING BOWMAN!
$400 FOR A JUMBO…. THATS JUST BS…. AND MY RENT FOR THE MONTH. TOPPS BETTER GET MORE REASONABLE ON THERE PRICES!

  34. Was given a good deal by my local card shop on a couple of jumbos. Pulled autos of Darren Duran sparkle to 299, Sherten Apoltel base, Alvard Seijas sparkle to 299, De La Cruz base, Aaron Ashby atomic to 100, and the biggest hit of my life; a gold refractor Jasson Dominguez auto to 50. Obviously I am going to give a good review but if not for the Dominguez and not getting a deal on the boxes I doubt if I would have purchased this pricey product.

  35. I bought 3 jumbos and didn’t get a card that would be worth more than $30 on ebay. All the signatures were low key. Very disappointed. All the refactors were a disappointment. Not for this price. Avoid.

  36. It was back in stock at target for less than a minute there must be bots buying all of them to resale this kind of stuff only happens with Topps panini is way better they need a lisence and Topps should stop making retail exclusives panini products are much easier to find the hobby is becoming a business and resselers are taking advantage the of the pandemic knowing that people have stimulus checks

  37. This is absolutely outrageous pricing! With the news of cutting 1000+ Minor League players just now happening, people need to consider selling these at a low price because now all of the prospects in this will probably be jobless by the time all cuts have been made. Whoever is selling these at $300-$500 hobby/jumbo and $65 blasters should consider selling them at a way lower price due to the fact that there may not even be a Minor League season.

  38. Bowman is fun because of the prospects and gives you a reason to go back and look at the cards again every couple of years. Really clean design and attractive. Inserts look good. As much as I like it, this is not a $300 plus per box product and as of today I have started seeing prices come down. It is usually a highly produced product and Topps will start cranking it out soon and the prices should really plummet. If you pulled any of the high demand cards with intent to flip I hope you already have since they will surely drop drastically too.

  39. I usually buy Heritage, Archives, Bowman and Topps Chrome. I am disappointed that I cannot even afford a box or two of Bowman. I have a feeling Chrome will be the same. I have spent less that $200 this year on cards. Over $2000 last year. It’s weird, but it seems sellers are buying everything up and if their is a good rookie pricing goes crazy. Regardless, I will wait and see if I can get a Bowman Chrome set later this year. I think prices will go down but who knows.

  40. It’s time to put Bowman on notice and quit buying this overpriced crap. Go on EBAY and buy singles. I have spent $250 on EBAY on autographs since the product dropped. I have 30 autographs and about 20 # cards. It’s just not a good investment anymore.

  41. I have opened four blasters from Wal-Mart. Zero cards (paper or chrome) of Dominguez, Witt, Jr, or Puason. Heck, I didn’t even get a Mike Trout regular base card from the 4 boxes.

Has Bowman short-printed any of these cards or was I just that unlucky?

  42. Nothing was noted by Topps as a short print in the base set. It could just be bad collation.

  43. Another Bowman set that should plummet in value. Almost had to fall on the floor laughing when I saw a 2014 Kris Bryant Bowman Chrome prospect RC from the Bowman pack graded BGS 10 sell for $25 on ebay, while a plain BOWMAN Jasson Dominguez BGS 10 sold for over $1100?!?!?!?

Bryant: been a ROY, MVP, and won the World Series. Dominguez hasn’t even proven himself professionally.

If you are going to buy, sell it pretty darn soon after that.

  44. Please don’t feed into the flippers. Dont’ buy off ebay, offer up or other scammers that artificially jack up the price for the true collectors.

  45. Great set if you can get any retail. I wonder what idiots are paying 250 for a hobby box! Topps Please keep the printers running! Jason Dominguez will Be a dollar bin card eventually.

  46. I like the cards but can’t find them at local Walmart or Target……someone is buying them all up and selling them real high on e-bay.
I was able to get 2 boxes and got some real nice cards. However, I’m confused about the “refractors”…….I’ve got some I think are refractors, they are numbered on front like a refractor, but the word “refractor” is not on the back of the card. Is it a refractor”? Thanks for your help.

  47. If the card says Chrome on the front and it’s numbered, it’s very likely a Refractor. Normally, only the base Refractors are noted as such on the back to help distinguish them. The numbered cards with different border colors make it obvious you have one, so the notation is not needed.

  48. The price gouging is at an all time high this year. Breakers are killing the hobby. I’m not paying these outlandish prices for Topps products this year.

  49. The casual card collector and collecting by my grandkids have been barred from buying these products due to overwhelming greed. I have noticed incredible amounts of retail availability where it appears people bought blasters and packs right off the delivery truck. There are no Bowman or Topps retail sizes to be had anywhere and it is incredibly disappointing to my grandkids. Perhaps Beckett is a venue to approach Topps Corporate and let them know that today’s greed is killing off all future collectors. They probably do not care. Bad news.
