Trey is a lifelong sports fanatic. He is a huge fan of the NBA and NFL, as well as soccer, college basketball and college football. As a kid, he collected football and basketball cards. In more recent years, he started collecting basketball cards again on a whim and has since expanded to other sports and entertainment options.

Overpriced and overhyped. I’ll go buy older cards for lower prices. Panini has ruined collecting. It’s all about feeding the breakers and the filthy rich.

Product is excellent & rare – only 200 sets available. That’s what makes a card interesting to collect & I’m excited to see Panini making good products in a way that makes the hobby grow. I’m back in this hobby again after a 30 year break & ita because of what Panini is doing

I couldn’t agree more with everything that everyone above me said. I’ve been collecting Hoops basketball since I was 5 years old back when the set debuted in 89’ and to see a set that has always been one of the most affordable you could find reach the absolute ridiculous level of markup it has is just disgusting. I’m not looking to make money here. I’m not buying just to flip it and try to double or triple my money. I just love to collect and ultimately it just makes me sad that I can no longer afford to continue doing so.

I agree with the 1st two commentors that the hobby has gotten out of hand. While I agree that Panini has been reaping all of the benefits (if folks don’t agree, check out the “dutch” auctions on their website where base products like Donruss and Hoops are selling for $500-$1000 a hobby box), I think the biggest culprit is the “box breakers”. They are the ones who are wiling to spend big money for a box, because they anticipate that they will recoup it when they turn around and do box breaks. I have seen folks on a Facebook page complain about the current state of the hobby and then turn around and participate in box breaks and razzes, etc. If folks would show some self-restraint and support the breakers, razzers, etc and make them eat the amount that they spent on boxes, with the sole intent of marking it way up, then maybe the hobby will have a chance to return to normal. The folks who have been in the hobby and the new ones who plan on staying long term, should keep the hobby healthy as they are in it for the enjoyment and long term investment. The ones who are buying up all the boxes by camping out at Walmart, Target etc, are only in it for the money (and have ruined the hobby in my opinion). So real collectors, stop supporting those folks by overpaying for a $20 blaster box. Make the hoarders open up every box they bought and sell the cards that they get out of them for less money. While it is thrilling to pull a nice card out of a pack, it will save you lots and lots of money in the long run if you just save up and buy the card that you want. That way you are guaranteed to get it and not waste tons of money trying to get it out of an overpriced pack. As for the product, I will give it one star because Panini sold the Hobby boxes on their site for more than folks will get back out of the box. I have been collecting for a long time and built up a nice collection before the pandemic and the bubble started, so I will wait out the people who are ruining the hobby. Hopefully that will be sooner than later. Also, being someone who was the only person in my area who collected basketball (or one of the few), who had to ask the local hobby shops (when there were some) to special order basketball boxes only for me, it is super annoying not being able to get a box on a random trip to Target. But, this too shall pass.

COVID has created an artificial bubble in card collecting that has made it impossible to find product in stores and spiked the prices of product that you can find. Panini is the worst offender. They allow the pack busters to set prices to ridiculous prices that put collecting cards out of reach for the young and normal card collector. Sorry Panini low end Hoops should not cost 600+ a box, low end Donruss should not cost 1000 a box. This will come back to bite Panini when they drive most of the collectors away who can’t afford their products and the COVID collecting bubble collapses the card industry.

this hobby is a joke
this hobby is a joke

amazing they just keep putting out more and more 19-20 crap. making new colored parallels, so awful. feeling more like 1990 everyday as more stuff comes out. can’t wait for the crash of this hobby and won’t feel bad for the hobby shops that start looking where their loyal customers from last 10-20 years are from before pandemic and finally realize they ain’t coming back because of their greed during this awful time. these shops are making up to 1000% profit on all the stuff they are getting direct from manufacturers. Don’t ever believe when they tell you they are paying more because it is all BS. And thanks again hobby shops. manufacturers and distributors for ruining a fun hobby for kids and adults that got into it as kids, most will never be coming back
